Helpful Supplements

Due to a possible surgery i may have to take it extremely easy on weight liftning for 3 months, and cut out leg and lower back excersises for good during those 3 months (lower back surgery). Prevents you from sitting for a week, but after that week the pain subsides and sitting is possible, i think after two weeks of rest im gonna do some light upper body excersises, mostly machines, are there any supplements to help me preserve the muscle or help me build it during these 3 months, im looking for supplements that dont have any withdraw effect (ex. creatine, stop taking it after a prolonged use water drains from your muscles making you look smaller). thanks

I don't think you can supplement your way out of not being able to exercise. Just do what you can, and get back into the game as soon as possible.

A lot of protein and maybe some fish/flax oil too. Do some flexing of the different muscle groups too in order to keep them functioning and stimulated.

Protein to help you heal. Some good healthy fats to promote good health. Go easy on the simple carbs (stick to complex for timed release into the body...don't want to get fat while you heal). Don't do anything your doc says not to do.

Take care and please get well.

Supplements might help 5% or so. But you can only do the best you can. Three months compared to a lifetime of fitness is harmless to overall progress. That's all I'm saying.

Go to our site, www.atlargenutrition.com and check out ETS. It may be of some help in your recovery. We have had several athletes use it to help rehab themselves after injury and or surgery.

I agree that taking some essential fats like cod liver oil or flax seed oil would be a good choice for you right now. perhaps glucosamine aswell.

if you don't mind me asking what exactly have you done to your back to need this operation?
