How much dextrose by volume?

I've been adding dextrose to my postworkout creatine, but I don't have a scale so I don't know how much I've been adding. Basically, I'm using half of one of the scoops that come with protein powder (Designer Whey, in this case, but I think Optimum came with the same one). Anyone know how many grams of dextrose that works out to be--and if it's a reasonable amount to add to 5 g creatine? Thanks.

Use a 3:1 Carbs to Protein post-workout ratio, this may seem a little high but it works for me. If it's too sweet drop it to 2:1 or 2.5:1.

I think those scoops are generally supposed to be 30g of protein (check your tub to be sure) and dextrose is probably a similar enough density, so half of a scoop would be 15g dextrose (or close enough).

What I used to do to measure things when I didn't have a scale (takes some effort): if you know the total weight of material (i.e. a 1kg bag of dextrose) measure the total volume yourself, then calculate the density. If your 1kg bag (1000g) measures out to exactly 8 cups (2000ml) then 1000g / 2000ml = .5 g per ml. Now you know how much any volume weighs: 1tbsp = 7.5g, 1/4c = 31g, etc... Just have to be consistent in your measurements (e.g. unpacked, leveled).

Each scoop of Designer Whey is about 18 grams of protein, but there's a tiny bit of other stuff in there too (vitamins, etc.). So call it 20 grams. If dextrose is similar in density, and I'm currently using 10 grams of dextrose, I can't imagine using a 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein. My teeth would fall out.

Actually, because I think creatine ruins the texture of an otherwise good shake, I mix the creatine and sugar with water, drink that, and then have the shake--Silk brand soymilk and two scoops of Designer Whey.

Just had a look at Designer Whey info online and it looks like a scoop is actually about 24g (it appears there's a fair bit of other stuff ). BTW above I meant 30g of protein powder, not pure protein, but an overestimation nonetheless.

It's up to you. Do you want a nice tasting, easy-to-drink shake or one that gets your muscles packed full of protein? I prefer the latter. I hated the taste to start with but now I can throw it down without a second thought.

I hear ya, Jock. For a two-protein-scoop shake, would you use six scoops of dextrose?

Yeah that's exactly what I have, it's a little sweet but you'll get used to it.

I am now mixing 8oz Orange Juice Concentrate, 40g Dextrose and 2 Scoops Optimum Whey Protein Powder.

Gives 4g of Fat, 79g of Carbs, and 45g of Pro (532 Calories). You werent kidding though - that stuff is sweet (Like mouth puckering sweet). I coundnt imagine it without the OJ lol.
