How much protein per day?

Hi guys, i'm new here so first of all i'll just say hello

I've been taking Nutrisport 90+ protein for about about the last 2 weeks and i've put on a fair amount of muscle. I've been frankly amazed at the difference it has made so far. I've been taking 6oz / 150g of powder a day which equates to roughly 135g of pure protein. When i last went to the health food shop, the girl behind the counter asked me how much i weigh, (which is a little over 200lbs) and she said that i should be aiming to intake 200g of pure protein a day.

Is this right? I thought i was drinking enough of this **** already

Also i need to know if this Nutrisport stuff is good? It seems relatively expensive at £13 (roughly $19) for a 700g tub but i'm told all proteins are expensive.

doesn't have to be all in shake form, make up the shortfall in meats and other high protein foods, and thats quite a good price for a container that size (in an english health food store). should by it in bulk for savings, i've seen 10lbs of whey for £40. shop around

first off thats enough liquid protein! gonna get very expensive otherwise!
if you gainning muscle then i'd say stick to that amount. obviously if you wernt gainning you would have to look at both your workouts and protein intake.
700g for £13 seems expensive?
I get 6lb of whey isolate wholesale for £50. it retails at £70 a tub in the stores!!

Hi, firstly let me say welcome to the forums!

Just out of interest, how long have you been working out? I'm going to go out on a limb and say not all that long.

The girl behind the counter in the health food shop was surprisingly correct in her assessment of your protein needs! If you weigh around 200lb then you do need about 200g of protein per day to supplement your muscle growth.

I've not heard of Nutrisport protein before, but you should be looking at whey protein over anything else. I used to use something called Protein Matrix by Multipower - utter crap really, and I really noticed a difference after a few weeks of whey!

As people have said here, 135g liquid protein is plenty per day. If you carry on with this it will get very pricey, very quickly!! If you are relatively new to bodybuilding, may I suggest you look at maximising the amount of nutrients you can get from a healthy natural diet before you turn to supplements. Just about everyone needs a protein supplement, but it's best to use it as little as possible for the obvious reason of cost!

Good workout routine, lots of rest and a good diet first, THEN add any supps you think you'll need.

A good site for cheap UK supps is Affordable Supplements . I've just ordered a 5lb tub of whey and a 6lb tub of nlarge2 gainer from them, 60 quid for the lot including delivery!!

Good luck!
Rich
