Question

Hydroxycut Q's

Hi im 19 years old and i weight in at 287 im 6'2" and seem to have most of my weight in the GUT my arms arnt fat and my legs r muscular but what my point is is that i just started taking hydroxycut for 4 days now and on the first day i joined a gym(24hour fitness) and i do feal like i have less hunger while on the pill.... i also take a mutivitamin boast daily. i goto the gym mon-fri for about 2 hours in the morning i eat 3 or 4 small meals a day no carbs arter 5 or 6 i drink LOADS of water while on hydroxycut and to be quite honest going to the gym makes me feal GREAT i have way more energy. i usually do cardio for 10 min at 150bpm and then pump iron, i do a all around workout i do all muscles in a day.. i have 31.6% body fat and my trainner that i used for 1 day gave me that info and he told me that in about 6 to 10 months i will be at 18.6% body fat and at 244lbs and thats about a 43lbs loss.... now lol im assuming thats because if i workout along with losing fat i will weight at 244 btu it will be because of muscle... what i want to do is lose FAT and build and tone muscles can i do that all at one time or do i need to lose fat first? my trainner said that if i did nothing but cardio that i would lose weight.....yes but i would lose muscle also! is that true? any info whould be greatly appreciated....

THANK YOU ALL

Yes, doing nothing but cardio will cause you to lose muscle mass as well as fat. That's why most bodybuilders focus more on lifting than cardio. Their cardio workouts are usually 20 minutes max. Some don't even do cardio at all.

More muscle burns more fat. Work on the muscle. But make sure you are eating clean, and eating enough to nourish it.

Also, I don't know if I understood you correctly... Do you do full-body workouts 5 days a week? If you want to gain muscle, you'll need to give your muscles some time to rest or they just won't grow. In this sport, more isn't necessarily better.

Oh yes, welcome to DiscussFitness.

Well, I don't know if you should be asking me for advice. I'm fairly new to the bodybuilding world as well. I do know, however, that full-body workouts 5 times a week is too much work -- you will not realize your goals this way. The best way is, as you said, to work on different parts of the body on different days (maybe 3 or 4). This will allow ample rest for the muscles you worked. Don't forget about diet, though. Diet is as important, if not more important, than your lifting.

A couple of links you might find helpful (they were useful to me):

4-day split
5-day split
2000-calorie meal plan
3000-calorie meal plan

I hope this helps. Stick around. I'm sure someone will pop in with more tips for you.

to add on to my above post after searching more on discussfitness i was wondering if i should just go HEAVY on cardio to lose my fat first and do a little bit of pumpin iron to maintaine the muscle i have or should i just go straight to 10 min cardio to get heart rate up then go HEAVY less reps on lifting? i would be extremely happy to see ym muscle underneith the fat and i know i got muscle even my trainer said i did its just hidden so i would be TONED sort aw say if i got ride of the fat.... btu im really interested in building my arm muscles and flatening my stomach and gettin pecks instead of tities lol........

P.S. i havent liked working out before btu all teh sudden something just clicked in me and i want to start fealing and looking better... im mainly doing this for me and my job i want to do but doing this fo rthe women is a CLOSE second if ya know what i mean

Glad to hear you're ready to make a change! Your enthusiasm will definitely help you on your way. And you couldn't have found a better place to start.

To answer your question regarding cardio... Personally, I would focus on building more muscle and letting that burn my fat for me. Sure, cardio burns more fat during exercise, but after exercise, it has very little fat-burning effects as compared to weight-lifting, which burns a lot of fat during recovery.

Rather than kill myself with cardio (like I used to), I'd rather sit and have my muscles do the fat-burning for me.
