1: Is whey protein actually going to help me increase my strength?
2: How often should i take whey protein?
3: would you recommend a certain brand or type of protein supplement?

Welcome sd. Answers to your questions in a nutshell: 1. Yes 2. Postworkout 3. They are all good.

This is a very open ended question that has been talked about repeatedly on this forum. At the top of each page is a feature called "Search". If you do an "Advanced Search", type in the word "whey" or "protein", choose the "Nutritional Supplements" forum to search, and you will find an overwhelming number of threads to read that will answer your questions.

You should even cruise through the sticky "Which protein powder is best??" for some more discussion on which brand to use.

Whey is a protein, just like the protein you can get from foods like meat, dairy, beans, tofu, etc. Many people like to use it post workout because whey digests more quickly than other proteins.

Whey on it's own, though, is not going to make you stronger. It's only a protein source. You will also need consistent weight training to become stronger.

As far as how often to take it, it really depends on your individual nutrition needs. Whey is a good supplement, but be sure that most of your protein comes from whole food.

You need to couple a proper diet and weight training program to whey protein for it to work, it wont grow muscle on its on. If you are a shot/discus thrower you should probably focus on compound lifts with an emphasis on lower body/back. Now combine this routine with whey protein and you will see some results.

I agree, ON, in my opinon is the best whey protein. I paid around $50 for a 5lb tub and that usually lasts me about a month or so. Chocolate=best flavor.
