Is there I difference between glutamine and L glutamine?
I was looking on the back of the ON whey tub and it says there is 3.xx grams of "glutamine and precursors" in each serving. So if I'm taking 3 serving of On whey a day would there be any point in also taking 5 grams of L glutamine a day, or is this already being covered?

People need to take a lot more L-Glutatmine than they think, upto around 10 - 20g for it to actually be effective. There's no difference since glutamine is essentially one thing, an amino acid - they can't alter it in many ways except for making it more digestable etc and even that doesn't alter the actual compound. I'd say go for both.
There are two different forms of glutamine being used by supplement companies these days, L-Glutamine and Glutamine Peptides. The peptide form
of glutamine is more effective but the L-Glutamine is effective but you need to take more of it in order for it to have the same effect as the peptide form.
In my experience, Optimum Nutrition's L-Glutamine gave me results nearly as
good as Peptide form made by other companies and the glutamine they put in their whey protein I think is the same.
Yes, Glutamine Peptides are exactly the same thing, except the peptide bonds have been cut by endopeptidase enzymes making them a lot easier to digest...problems? Yes.... per gram it's not as effective because of the broken polymer chains.
