Just bought some Whey powder and now some Q's
Ok so i bought some some Whey Powder (which works out at 72% protein). Now on the front it says only 81Kilocalories per scoop. 81kilocalories? Plus what constitutes a scoop?
thirdly can it just be added to food as a general extra ingrediant (taking into account how much you want etc)
Cheers

For my brand (All the Whey), 1 scoop = 1 oz = 28 grams (25 grams of protein). I think scoops differ from brand to brand, but it's usually 1 oz. See if they tell you a quantitative measurement for the serving size (oz, grams, etc...) label.
You can just add it to "anything" as a general extra ingredient, but I find I don't like it mixed into to many of my foods, although I like it with almost anything in the blender.

Most protein has the scoop inside the container. Dig down and around and you will probably find it.

Post workout drinks are crucial to making gains. If you don't feed your muscles with protein and carbs then you are wasting your time in the gym. Just thinking about your other thread, Edward, where you mentioned you didn't make many gains in 5 months time. Were you taking a recovery drink post workout?

nope, occasionally a tub of cottage cheese but thats it. I've been checking out cursors recipe thread and got a couple of recipes for protein shakes
My diet says i should be eating 30p/30c/10f (grams that is). I was reading that people eat more after their workouts is this advisable or should i stick to the split i have now?
Cheers

I tend to eat big meals post workout, a little less throughout the day. Experiment and find what works for you.
The easiest postworkout drink I use is one scoop of vanilla whey, one teaspoon of creatine, and 8 ounces of grape juice. I mix the whey and creatine in a baggie, put the grape juice in a shaker cup and take it with me to the gym (now I workout at home so I don't have those worries). Within minutes of finishing my workout I mix and chug it fast. Not fancy but it works.

Seriously Ironman, how does that taste?
I wonder about something else with the reccomendations too. It seems to get the maximum benefit from the whey you would want to get the insulin going from the dextrose first. So I take my dextrose (or your grape juice) first (immediately after lifting), wait 10 minutes then take my whey. I use 40g when cutting and when bulking. Seems to work for me. Of course like was already said, you'll have to experiment to find out what and when gives you the best results.

Actually, welch, it tastes pretty good. The vanilla compliments the grape (or vice versa) and it does the trick to get the recovery process started.

Cool, glad you've got a blend you like. I just have to choke it all down, no matter how I mix it or what brand I buy.

I'm thinking he means grams per meal... that's how I read it, but I could be wrong.
Ironman and welch- right now I use a blender to make my PO shake, but it's good to know that you can just shake grape juice and whey together and it's there. I won't always have access to a blender in the future.

Just a quick question I didn't want to start a new thread.
I just bought Vanilla Whey protein. I am mixing it with 1% milk. Is that ok? Any other suggestions. I was planning on mixing it with a smoothie but the lady at the store said don't do that but i don't see why not. Also I am waiting like 20 min after my workout before i take it should i take it before to and after i have no idea.

Protein preworkout is good. If you need the carbs for energy - go ahead and make your protein into a smoothie with carbs added.
Protein postworkout is good. Carbs postworkout are good.
I personally prefer to take dextrose postworkout, wait 10 minutes and take my whey.
However, if you don't want to make it complicated, make a smoothie with protein and carbs that you'll enjoy. Milk/whey/banana is a good choice.
The simple carbs give you an insulin response that help move the protein into the muscles to fuel recovery and growth. This is the best time for an insulin response because it takes your fuel where you want it - muscle growth instead of fat storage. You are at your most anabolic immediately postworkout and the anabolic state slowly decreases for the next 2-3 hours.
Don't forget another protein/complex carb meal 1-2 hours postworkout. I have mine at 1.5 hours.
It's like this for me:
1. complex and simple carbs
2. protein
3. workout
4. immediately take dextrose
5. wait 10 minutes
6. protein
7. wait 1.5 hours
8. protein/complex carbs
Find something similar that works for you and you'll see better results than if you don't bother and just eat normally. Bracket your workouts with fuel. If that includes a protein/carb smoothie - then go for it.
Edit - 1% milk is just fine, so is 2%, so is skim, so is juice. It depends on your goals and your carb/protein/fat balance in your nutrition plan. And whatever helps you choke that sh*t down is beneficial.
