Question

L-carnitine!

Hi everybody,
I am off on holidays and I wanted to get rid of those spare tyres around my hips. I have been told that L-carnitine works well as a fat burner. I have now bought some l-carnitine pills that I am ready to take. Can somebody out there who's used l-carnitine in the past if it actually works and what is the best way to use it , that is, what time of the day and quantity.

Thanks for your help

Cut and Pasted:

What is L-Carnitine?
L-Carnitine is not an amino acid in the strict sense (it is not used as a neurotransmitter or in protein synthesis), however it bears many resemblances to amino acids and is usually grouped under this heading. L-Carnitine (the "L" refers to its chemical polarity) is used by the body to transport long chain fatty acids to the mitochondria in your cells, where it is burned for energy. Since this fat burning is such a major source of muscular energy, deficiencies in carnitine are manifested as low energy levels and muscular weakness. They can also appear as mental confusion or cloudiness, angina (heart pain) and weight gain.

Sources of L-Carnitine
Carnitine can be manufactured in the body provided the requisite vitamins and minerals are also present. These vitamins and minerals are B1, B6, C, and iron. The amino acids lysine and methionine are also needed for carnitine synthesis. Carnitine is also present in meats and other animal foods, so if you are a vegetarian or vegan you may want to consider supplementing with carnitine. This would be especially important if you are an athlete, since you are using lots of carnitine during periods of exertion.

Take 500mg, twice a day.

I read a couple studies on L-Carnatine, and they are all done on rats. All done with 3-4 grams per litter of water.

So that works out to some 12 grams you'd have to take to see results.

Anyway, it ends up being too expensive to see results.

I have used it before with ZERO results. There are far better fatburners on the market these days.

I have seen reference made to studies done that say l-carnitine works (mostly in ads). I really don't think the ads are a blatant lie, so I am wondering if the studies used an injectable form? This way it would bypass the digestive system and its ability to change the compound. Do you think fella's think that it might work that way?
