L-glutamine

For about the past 6 weeks, I have been taking 2 grams of l-glutamine prior to my workouts based on a suggestion in a book I read. I've read it's suppose to to help with workout performance and endurance.

Interestingly, I didn't take it for 2 workouts last week, both of which had challenging interval running components and I failed to complete both of these planned running workouts. Then, yesterday I took it before my workout which had a tough running interval workout and I completed the workout as planned.

So I'm trying to figure out if the 2 dud performances were just a matter of how the stars were aligned, or if there is something to taking the l-glutamine prior to my workouts, or maybe something else. I'm sure with more training with and without the pre-workout l-glutamine consumption I could figure it out myself.

Does anyone have anything to share based on your experience? Thanks!

I don't know if it actually works or not. However I do use it after each workout since it is the amino acid most abundant in the body and most used up by hard work involving the muscles. Because of this, it certainly sounds right to replace it. Besides, it's cheap - like $9.00 for a 2 or three month supply. I'm using 9grams after each workout.

Anecdotal probably with nothing to do with it. I forgot it have it last workout, today when standing from my between sets of squats chair my back started to hurt and caused me to think for a change and call it off instead of pushing it.

It's a pretty good preservative too - think MSG, then try chinese food pre or post workout.

Definately all in your head. L glutamine is over rated typically to supplement specifically with but can be very useful in the bodies coping of high stress situations.

Stress situations which result in somone becoming worn down lowered immune sytem etc also good for digestive health. Most of it is used by the digestive tract cells when taken orally.

Monosodium GlutaMATE has nothing to do with GlutaMINE

Look them both up and read again. However, if you read the post - you'll get where the joke was. Everyone else did.

Why would anyone interested in fitness be going to chinese resturaunts anyway? Or really spending much time in any resturaunts?

I used glutamine for a while and had no discernable change in recovery or performance. I don't supplement with it anymore directly, but there are 4+ grams per serving in my whey.

It could be a placebo effect, but so what if it is? If it's helping you, does it matter if it helps because some physiological change takes place or if it's all in your head?

I've been supplementing with gluatamine for months... just realized the other day that my ON gold standard whey already has plenty in there.
