L-Glutamine - Real Life Benefits?

Hi all,

I'm well aware of the reports and scientific conclusions on the usage of glutamine. I have also used glutamine for a while but did not experience anything 'tangiable'

What I'm looking for is peoples experiences on using L-Glutamine and actual benefit...

Cheers

I also found no benefit to using glutamine.

I am the odd ball who has seen a huge difference. I know when I haven't taken my glutamine. I feel it. Takes me longer to recover. I haven't been sick with a virus since I started taking it. I had a horrible immune system before (I was sick about 1/3 of time, all year, in bed for a good part of it). It's possible that it's something else, but I'm sure as heck not going to stop taking it and find out.

Can't say it's helped with muscle growth though. And I know my experience is unique.

I found that If I used a lot of it postworkout, I seemed to be less sore the next day. Placebo effect? Possibly.

However, remember the way I use anything. I keep everything the same, add whatever suppliment I'm going to try, and give it a full eight weeks to see what happens. I've never gotten a placebo effect from anything else, but it is possible I got one from glutamine. Either way, I didn't grow from it, I didn't get stronger from it, so am not using it now. I'm so sore right now in my chest and shouders I wish I was.

Hmm, winter training, cold weather, using immunosuppressive medications, taking care of sick people. Perhaps I should start using it again.

Ouch! 3 years is a long time bro. Glad to see you getting back into it, though.

Trying it wouldn't hurt and it is rather affordable and shouldn't put too much of a dent in your wallet. Heck, maybe you can add something to this thread once you have used it.

Sorry I just saw this. I take 5 grams int he morning and either 5 grams either before bed or right after my workout (which is early evening).

I understand the benefits of glutamine (immune and digestive health, prevent muscle catabolism, etc.) but I'm confused as to how much is needed to be effective. I have crohn's disease, so my digestive system is pretty poor to say the least. I'm sure it would benefit me in that aspect, but I'm already getting about 8 grams/day with my whey protein. Would it be beneficial for me to add to that amount?

I think if you are getting 8g/day that should be enough. Even when used as a BB supp (effective or not), most just use 4.
