L-Glutamine results?
I've searched DF for threads on Glutamine, and read where some members were starting Glutamine supplementation. I'd like to ask; has made a noticeable difference in you gains, either in strength or growth?
There was some discussion about whether amino acids could even be utilized by the body when taken orally. I'm curious if it is a waste of money or not.

i made quite the interesting discovery gearloose. On the side of my whey protein container it listed all the amounts of each amino acid in a serving of whey protein. The amount of glutamine in a serving was like 4 or 5 GRAMS. If you then take 2 or more protein shakes a day you are getting all the glutamine you need from protein shakes.
I discovered this after getting a separate glutamine powder so i think i wasted my money and probably wo'nt get more.

I just checked mine. (ON Whey) It has just a tad over 4 grams of Glutamine per scoop. I think I'll save my money.

yeah i have ON whey and i also use Worldwide Sports Xtreme whey. Both have tons of glutamine in them. I take anywhere from 4-6 shakes daily (it's just easier) so im not buying additional glutamine any longer.

20 grams? THat's ridiculous, seems quite high and a waste. Clay told me to take 10 post workout because i'm a big boy. Yuo're 100 lbs lighter than me and a female. LOL
I was taking 5g in the morning and 10 after workouts.

it was to determine if i'd get any benefit from it - better than taking 5grams a day for a month and find out nothing will happen. apparently, high-dose glutamine is very effective for some ppl. just that it's rather expensive. i've been adding 10g glutamine to my post- workout shakes at the gym (they've got, like, EVERYTHING you can get in single-dose amounts - no need to buy the bottle). hasnt' rung any bells for me.

I have always stated the glutamine in whey is enough.
However it depends on how much you are taking if it is only from the one scoop of protein pwo it will do very little as a lot of it will be used by your intestinal cells.
Glutamine is the most dep[leted amino acid after a workout.
So now i supplement with glutamine am i feeling stronger or getting bigger due to it? not at all and i dont know of any study that will prove it does.
So why do i take it? I find glutamine excellent for my immune system. I used to be always very run down after a workout or in the evening and always prone to illness after a heavy workout. With glutamine that has stopped and my immune recovery from the depression of the workout seems greatly enhanced by it.
I am taking about 20gs a day splitt between morning pre/pwo and evening.

I think its a waste to supplement it, unless of course its already in your shake. It's better in my opinion to take a BCAA supp. with some vitamin C & E after your workouts. Costs about the same and is much more beneficial and effective.

yeah - but tastes like week-old ass. i've got a huge bucket of BCAA and that stuff's NASTY! problem is, too, that you can't take it with other proteins or they bind in and your system doesn't absorb them.

yep - the instructions from the manufacturer:
http://www.trueproteincanada.com/sto...idProduct=3068
Quote:

Recommendations: We recommend to take BCAA’s on an empty stomach, so there is no competing for absorption and uptake by other amino acids. 5 grams (1 rounded teaspoon) pre workout and 5 grams post workout. Some people use much more than 10 grams a day by other recommendations.
|
when i asked someone what, exactly, that meant, i was told that BCAA are not "proteins", they're protein components. if you take them with food, they combine to form complete proteins and don't do their intended job (absorb quickly and head for muscle tissues).

Very true, thats why BCAA's are taken immediately after workouts because of the fast absorbtion rates. This is then followed by a regular post workout shake about ten minutes or so after.
