Liquid Protein - Pisses Right Out?

Hey everyone...I been getting conflicting reports about protein powder consumption...Some of my friends tells me that there's no point in drinking protein drinks cause most of it pisses right out...is this true? Thanks

Are they suggesting that anything introduced in liquid form gets passed right out of the digestive system without nutrient absorption? If so, then I'd better not take my aspirin with water. And I can drink all the whole milk that I want because it's liquid and my body won't be affected by the fat content (for that matter, I can drink half n' half!). Since a can of soda pop is liquid I can drink it without having to worry about the detrimental effects that might be caused by the 11 tsp of sugar that it contains. And as long as we're talking about liquids ... I can drink all the beer that I want without inviting that beer gut that I used to have.

Hey, maybe it's just protein that isn't processed with liquids ...

No, Cursor, it's because it's a powder. Powders are ignored by your body, you see. That's why you can eat an entire bag of white flour, a box of powdered sugar, and a box of baking soda, and it doesn't become a big cake in your tummy...

WHAT?! Powders are ignored by your body? What possible basis could you have for making that claim?

So ... what is it about "powder" that makes it so indigestible? You're telling me that your body will not extract nutrients from a cup of powdered sugar (or any powder)? If I sit in front of the TV with a tub of powdered jellow pudding consume the whole thing (one spoonful at a time), my body will just ignore it?

If that's true, then I should be able to dehydrate anything, grind it into a powder, then eat as much of it as I want ... as long as it's a powder.

edit: Shmackey ... I see now, by looking at your former post, that you must have been kidding when you wrote about "powder." Funny.

I believe you guys...but I just want to tell you their reasons for this claim...they said most of the protein goes out when they pee cause they drink tons of water and they urinate very often...

Cursor: any time I mention something becoming a "cake in your tummy," I'm kidding. You know, for the record.

I have a tough time recognizing sarcasm when it's delivered in such technical terms.

Haha...will try cursor....BTW, how long does it take the body to digest the powder protein before you pee it out?

Depends on the protein. Whey protein digests fairly quickly (Within 30min-1hour). Other types like casien protein take longer.

Ideally, you don't excrete it through your urine. To do any good at all, it needs to be processed and absorbed by your body.

Oyi i didnt even catch the last part of your post about peeing it out. My answer was for digesting it heh.

Cursor is right about the fact that it should not be excreted =)

Of course it shouldn't be excreted cause there will be no benefit of taking protein, but how about if you drink alot of water everyday and pee very frequently? I'm just curious.
