Making a recovery drink

I read Possible Spam which is a sweeeeeeeeeeeeet book for any scrawny person to read. One of the authors writes about what is in the perfect recovery drink. I've tried to find all the ingredients off of web sites and couldn't. The authors also mentioned that there are some commercial recovery drinks that have the right composition. That composition is about 60 grams of carbs from simple glucose or glucose polymers, about 30 grams protein from whey hydrolysates or hydrolyzed whey protein, 3-5 grams BCAA, 3g glutamine and 3-5g phenylaline. I would love it if someone could tell me some commercial recovery drinks that have this composition or a website that i could order all these ingredients from because i cannot. Thanks a bunch.

Man forget all that pseudoscience jazz! Supplement makers use all these fancy words to profile their product and dazzle readers... ever seen a MuscleTech ad?

Tell you what do for a 'recovery drink'... all you need is fruit, milk, peanut butter and some basic whey protein (get the cheapest 5lb jug you can find - there's not THAT much difference between brands, at least as far as metabolism is concerned).

I usually use frozen bananas, berries, skim milk, natural PB and chocolate EAS "simply whey" protein. Throw it all in a blender and you've got the best smoothie you've ever had, and it's full of all your micro & macro nutrients.

I might have one for breakfast if I'm in a hurry, an hour or so pre-workout if I need some energy, post workout if dinner is more than an hour away. I mean, you really can't go wrong...

exactly. the big guys aren't sitting in their basements in a fully equipped food tech lab with white coats and test tubes come lunchtime.

I keep it simple. I buy body fortress creatine (5g creatine, 32g dextrose/scoop) and body fortress protein (20g protein/scoop) at walmart. Why? It's cheap. I'm starting to add some glutamine to the mix tomorrow morning.

Cost:
Protein $12.00 a tub
Creatine/Dextrose $10.00 a tub
Glutamine $9.00 a jar (60 servings)

That's about 31.00/month or two months depending on how much you use. No need for the fancy, expensive stuff.

One thing, after your IMMEDIATE post workout recovery drink - wait about 30 minutes and eat a small whole food protein rich, moderate COMPLEX carb meal. Like for example a lean steak and SMALL baked potato, or chicken breast instead of the steak.

in the last issue of mens fitness, bill hartman became the latest to say that simple chocolate milk will take care of the needs in the post training situation. too many ppl just dont understand this. it doesnt have to be anything exotic

Good point abear. Plenty of the big lifters of the 60's and 70's got pretty huge by drinking lots of whole milk. And they weren't fat. I suppose skim milk may be a bit better by today's standards though.

All you need is protien, milk and some high GI carbs. This combo has worked very well for countless number of people.

I put banana, oatmeal (dry), vanilla flavored whey, water, and ice in mine. It actually tastes really decent.

Where are the best places to get glucose and dextrose? Right now, my whey has stevia in it and I don't add any additional sugar. Someone bought it for me from Whole Foods, and I wasn't about to turn it down! That's why I use oatmeal for the post-workout carbs, but in the future, I would like to use unflavored whey and sweeten it with dextrose... Does anyone else do this?
