mental workout

i was talking to one of my coaches about a kid who would stand in front of the mirror imagining his muscles getting bigger and we laughed. he then proceeded to tell me of books he has read about visualizing a workout and how it somewhat stimulates muscle growth and also thinking of a muscle group while doing a workout. ex: thinking about your pec getting bigger while doing bench. he also said thinking about the bicept peaking while doing curls can help somewhat with getting a peak. i was wondering what anyone knows about mental visuals while working out or if its just bull.

Picturing your body the way you want it to be is a valuable tool. Don't be put off from it because you are concerned about what others think. But visualizing is part of goal reaching, and you should use it daily.

The famous ARNOLD used to do this as well. I read in an interview that he used to imagine his biceps inflates and fills the whole room. Visualizing is nothing to be laughed at. It also increases your mind - body connection.
