What is Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), and what does it do?

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a naturally occurring sulfur compound and is widely distributed throughout the plant and animal food chain. The problem is that it’s easily destroyed during food processing, storage, and cooking. This makes the typical diet marginal at best in terms of its MSM content, resulting in the problem of increasing sulfur deficiency.

Since sulfur is the fourth most prevalent mineral in our bodies, it stands to reason that taking it in supplemental form could bring about some pretty dramatic health benefits. Best of all, there are no side effects, even at very high doses! Imagine...a naturally occurring compound that’s inexpensive, highly effective in restoring balance within the body so that many chronic conditions spontaneously improve, and has proven to be absolutely safe!

MSM is a derivative of Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and has the same structure less one oxygen atom. It works at the cellular level and in clinical studies it is referred to as DMSO2. MSM is the body's preferred source of sulfur (essential for life and the basic building blocks of our cells). The problem with DMSO is that it is effective only in a liquid form and if applied to the skin it carries any substance on the skin right through and into the bloodstream...it also causes you to exude a garlicky aroma.

The benefits of MSM are many and that is why some think it is snake oil...however, these people couldn't be more wrong. These are the same people that doubt the benefits of soy, the proven health benefits of quality vitamins and minerals, and probably still don't believe we landed a man on the moon. MSM is used by the body to make important enzymes, antibodies, glutathione, and connective tissue, such as cartilage, collagen, hair, nails, and skin. It is critical for the production of amino acids, the building blocks of protein.

Research tell us that this natural substance may be the key to balancing essential bodily functions. It may hold great promise in combating allergies, illness and the body's response to stress. Note: Do not confuse organic sulfur, which is nonallergenic, with the synthetic sulfa drugs, which can trigger allergic reactions in many people.

Here is a list of some of the benefits attributed to MSM as derived from research papers on file at the Patent Office:

1. Reduces adverse response to inhalant allergens (i.e., helps relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis or “hay fever”, allergic sinusitis, and allergy-induce asthma).

2. Control symptoms associated with gastric hyperacidity (heartburn).

3. Provides relief from chronic constipation.

4. Reduces or eliminates hypersensitivity problems associated with the use of certain medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used to treat arthritis and related conditions.

5. Provides symptomatic relief of lung dysfunction.

6. Helps control parasitic infections of the intestinal and urogenital tracts.

7. Helps with mood elevation for the terminally ill.

8. Provides relief of pain, stiffness, swelling, and other symptoms of joint inflammation found in arthritis.

9. Relieves leg and back cramps, muscle spasms, and general soreness, especially in the elderly and in athletes after the stress of competition.

10. Helps reduce elevated B.P. due to stress.

There several MSM products on the market, but not all are created equal. Some have impurities and others aren’t readily absorbed. Our product provides a full 1,000 mgs of patented, stabilized MSM combined with 100 percent of the daily vitamin C along with isoascorbic acid and glycosyl flavones. Plus there’s more!...a lotion which in addition to containing MSM also has skin revitalizing factors such as antioxidant vitamins A, C, E and lipoic acid, and natural herbal extracts.
