Muscle milk? Alot of fat???
I did a search and didnt get to much info on it. I was just wondering what everyone thinks of this product. I was in the local store today and picket up a packet of it. It has a whopping 18 grams of fat a serving but claims it burns fat??
How much is too much fat a day??I know the body needs some.?
Then on every website you see the description says: Muscle Milk is an "evolutionary" muscle formula promoting efficient fat burning, lean muscle growth and fast recovery from exercise. Metabolically favorable ingredients stimulate growth and recovery in a similar manner to mother's milk nourishing a baby etc etc...plus it has all these other things in it of course.
I know jaster would go crazy but I dont like the taste of Optimum too much and am looking for something else.... Has anyone ever tried Isopure or metrx?

I too am curious about isopure. It claims to have 50g of protein and only like 2g of carbs. It is also like $50 for 2 lbs.
Is it any good?

Isopure is fine, but why waste all that money when say Metrx is comparable and a lot cheaper. I don't know what flavor of Optimum you tried, but I suggest trying a different flavor of there's. It's not worth the money theres no extra benefit in Isopure than a normal whey protein powder. As far as muscle milk, I say a big no no, they can tell you what you wanna hear it will burn fat. It's loaded with saturated fat, it would be like drinking a few glasses of whole milk on top of all your other foods not gonna work. Maybe the serving size is something crazy like 4 scoops I'm not sure, if thats the case you could take like 1-2 scoops a day for extra calories and be fine, but not the full serving.

Muscle milk has a lot of the fat content from MCT's (medium chain triglycerides). In theory the MCT is a much faster metabolizing fat, as it is supposed to be broken down for energy differently than a typical gram of fat (EFA's or otherwise). While I can't speak about how they can prove that it works in a laboratory, I can attest to it's performance on myself. I use regular MCT oil rather than buying Muscle Milkthis way I can regulate how much I want to use as an energy source.
Actually believe it or not, in the right training mode I've used as much as 1000 calories a day from MCT oil itself and still cutting body fat. This was in addition to 3 Myoplex shakes, 4 grilled chicken breasts, oatmeal, 1 potato, 6 cups of frozen broccoli, fruits, yogurt, and skim milk.
I say use the MCT oil, whether in muscle milk or as an oil you add yourself,

I've heard that about MCT's gettnlnr, but have never talked with anyone who has used them. How do you supplement with them? Do you cut total calories? Replace fat or carbs with them? Or just use them in addtion to your regular diet?
mykes68, I agree with you about the taste of ON. Bleh! Try Ultimate Nutrtion, ProLab, or Nectar. All are good proteins at reasonable cost. You will get a tad less protein per serving than Iso Pure, but at half the cost.

hey man muscle milk might have a ot of fat in it however there medium chained fatts. so out body uses them up first ....kind of like a carbohydrate. there not the kind of fat that is stored as fat......unless there not used up all the way.

Muscle Milk:
Total Calories: 348
Calories From Fat: 162
Total Fat: 18 g 20%
Saturated Fat: 8 g* 20%
Cholesterol: 3 mg 1%
Sodium: 200 mg 8%
Potassium: 595 mg 17%
Total Carbohydrates: 12 g 4%
Dietary Fiber: <2 g 8%
Sugars: 6 g
Protein: 32 g 64%
The whole thing just cofused me but now that I look at the label notice it has a star by the sat fat. Then at the bottom it says 80% of saturated fats are in the form of MCT. MCT's are typically burned as energy and show little or no propensity for storage as body fat or as a contributor to arteriosclerosis.
This is off one of those single packets. 75g serving which near the same serving as Isopure and metrx (72g). I tried the muscle milk chocolate this morning and It tastes really good!! Havent tried the metrx pack or ISopure yet.
I still dont know if im going to go with the muscle milk though????Maybe mix it up use one in the morning then use a diff brand the rest of the day.

Ironman, As far as supplementing with MCT oil, you can simply add the oil straight to your protein shake, bake with it, salad dressing. About the only way you can't use MCT oil is frying. Even that is doable, You just can't heat it to over 350 degrees, this changes the molecular structure. But I'll use this to cook my eggs in, just cook them on a low heat, it lets me have a fried egg this way. Awesome for packet italian dressing. You do have to add it to your dit slowly, as it will upset your stomach.
Parrillo performance has a cook book that is $20 U.S. and has a kinds of MCT recipes.
As for purpose, If you look at my list of foods you can see that I eat a pretty decent variety (carbs, fats, Pro), but it still is a little on the lower carb side. MCT oil lets me add a caloricly dense food that will in theory be utilized for fuel for whatever the body sees fit, as it is supposed to be utilized faster than a carb. This in theory and from my perspective allows for the macronutrients to be used in their entirity for muscle sparing body fat loss, or muscle building.
I can only let you know from a real life situation, as this is the one that counts for me. Labs have a harder time proving something works because they have a certain protocol to follow. Just remember when the lab rats said that steroids didn't promote any muscle or strength benefits, that's because they were only using small dosages, not enough to stimulate any changes.
mykes68,
I'd suggest that you save your money on the Muscle Milk. Pick up some MCT gold by Ultimate Nutrition and add your own to whatever protein you use now. While the Muscle Milk tastes great, it's way expensive. Just add it to your diet slowly as it will upset your stomach at first.
Hope this helps,
shane

Muscle Milk is more expensive than cheap protein, but DPS often has the 2.5lb jugs for 18.00 which isn't that bad. The Milk Chocalate mix is seriously the best tasting stuff i've ever had. Its tastes so good that i really really look forward to drinking it. Yummy.....
