newbie question

Hi newbie here. I tried doing a search on proper use of whey protein but couldn't seem to find an answer. anyway, my question is, how much whey protein should i be taking? and will it make me gain weight? coz I wanna trim up but at the same time build lean muscles. I'm 170lbs. having trouble with my gut.

thanks in advance guys!

I've heard for protein anywhere between 1-1.5g of protein per pound of body weight.

Yes it will help you gain weight by building muscle. Actually it is one of the best supplements to take (if not THE best).

Can't help you with the gut because I am experiencing the same problem. Nice muscle mass all around but I just can't get that last layer of fat to melt off to show the muscles underneath.

the whey protein i found comes in packets of 24grams each. is it safe to say that 1 packet mixed in water after workouts is not enough whey? or is it 1-1.5 grams per pound of body weight including meals?

Sorry if im ignorant.

Your meals are included in the protein total. You can normally get an approximate amount of for your meal. I mix my protein with milk because it tastes absolutely horrible with water. Yours may be a lot different.

1g/lb is plenty from complete food sources and supplements. The protein is extra calories so will make you gain weight if you want to slim up as well cut other calories out of your diet ie carbs/ fat and keep protein intake high to conserve muscle mass with a good training routine
