Question

Optimum Nutrition weight gain products

I was thinking about using some of this is my bulking diet. I posted a question asking how to eat 3500-4000 cals per day and 'liquid calories' was suggested to me. Unfortunately the highest calories in a protein powder I can find is about 200 per serving. I was thinking about trying this - any thoughts would be useful

The product I was looking at can be found here:

http://www.optimumnutrition.com/prod...p?Inventory=78

I was also looking at this one (lower sugared carbs) but it contains some dodgy looking acids etc

http://www.optimumnutrition.com/prod...?Inventory=285

I was also looking at the whey protein mixes which Optimum Nutrition provide. Is it safe to take this weight gain stuff and whey protein mix in the same day?

Thanks,
Rich

Well whatver you do, dont get the first one. The second one has a slightly sugar to denser carb ratio but then again it's still a gainer and contains stuff no one really needs nor cares about, your better off spending them $$ on food bro, for example the below drink what I have found on the net is... well I think the total cals explains all :

Gainer Drink

1 Quarter Milk (2%)
1 Cup Dry Milk Powder
Scoops Of Protein Powder Equal to 45g Of Protein.
1/2 Cup Choc Ice Cream
2 tbsp Natural Peanut Butter
3 tbsp Corn Syrup
2 tbsp Malted Milk Powder
1 tbsp Flaxseed Oil
1/2 Bannana

Blend & Refrigerate............say hello to 1800cal drink.
(76 g fat – 172 g carb and 113 g protein)

Cheers Lee - what time is best to drink this bad boy of a shake then? Over a period of time or all at once? Pre-workout I take it (or half before and half after?).

I've worked out Optimum Nutrition whey protein is only like £15.80 for a huge tub - far better than the 30 quid I've been shelling out for this Multipower crap. I'll get some of that, the ingredients you suggest, then try to make that err..interesting shake

Isn't 76g fat a bit much though? That only leaves me with err...well not a huge amount of fat allowance left for the day.

Oh yeah good point.... I forgot to add that the above recipe could make either one big drink or 3 small batches.... it is not like a postworkout shake... you could take it post workout but you'd do better taking your whey drink then. I was/am having difficulty with a few sections in my nutrition plan and I came across this to bump up the cals... works ok I guess... as you say the fat is wikidely (sp?) high.. if you divided it into 3 servings It would come to around 25g a serving of fat, not too bad. But yeah feel free to drink this whenever you feel like it really - earlier on in the day is a tad better because more chance to burn some of it up, but I've been adding 2 of these to my day, 3600cals right there

WOW! That is one hefty shake! Does the chocolate ice cream add to much saturated fat? I'm a little lost on how much sat. fat you should have a day..

where can you get malted milk powder and corn syrup?

NLarge and most of the other MRPs are just protein and maltodextrin--with maybe a little simple sugar.

I get all the ingriediants from my local supermarket, but not sure on what the situation is whereyou are, they aint too rare so you should be ok. You have to take to heart that the shake I posted seriously is a gainer shake, it has a lot of well, everything. You probably shouldn't listen to me when i say drink that thing - thats just some crazy **** I do to bump up the cals. You should try and limit the amount of sat fat you have a day, you really dont need much at all if any. You will be able to tell and control how much goes into it by choosing your set ice cream, looking at the cals and then doing some simple maths to work out exactly how much sat. fat your gonna be adding to that shake .... some ice cream is better than others, all about what you can get hold of though.
