Lee, advice for you, be VERY careful what books you buy. A BIG dictionary could be good, maybe some biographies, Dairy of Anne Frank will impress, bit of history, perhaps some cook books. Hide the girly mags though, and I would avoid "how to drug women by Iva Manypills"

Tsk Tsk. You`re not thinking are you? What the one MAIN thing? A Mirror. Add one to the bookshelf or next to it, then as she is looking at the books, position yourself so she can see you in the mirror. Make sure she see`s you admiring her "form". She`ll like the attention.
