Protein

Hello all,

I am just wondering what you think of my current protein shake routine. Any additions or changes are more then welcome and are ideally expected:

My I have "Whey Supreme" protein, not that it really matters the company, but it contains 21g/serving. This is my choice of protein for the fact that it is $28 for 5 lbs. Anyways, I take 1 scoop in the morning after breakfast (the only steady breakfast is weekdays when I wake up for school at 6:30a) and then I have 2 scoops post workout at around 6-630. What do you think I should add/change? Thank you!

Instead of two scoops post workout, have one scoop 30min before you workout, and one scoop after workout. :

I would love to be able to drink a shake 30 min before my work out, but that would be nearly impossible because I work at a community college about 15 minutes away from my house. So, right after work I go to the gym in the college and the only way for me to get a shake is to bring some protein powder with me to work and you know the all the steps. Would it be alright if I just drank the shake before work because then it would only be in my system for about an hour??

i drink two shakes a day while at work. Just bring a shaker with me, go to the kitchen area, throw some milk in, the powder, and shake while bringing it back to my desk. The only need for a blender is with powders like whey concentrate or bulk powders that have tones of sugar and other stuff. They advertise "mixes well", but we know better. Drinking the shake before work wouldnt do the same as if you drank it pre-workout, because the getting protein into your system pre workout is kind of like fueling your body for the upcoming storm. So you really should consider having a shake before working out, but should also make sure you get a consistant flow of protein in your body during the day. So a meal or protein shake before work would probably also be a good idea.

As long as your working out within about an hour or so of the protien shake your getting the most benefit of a pre workout shake. :

I use allthewhey. It's cheap, stirs fast, and the blend has only 2 g of carbs.

whey Protein Isolate

Bracketing your protein intake before and after your workout is optimum. That way you have all of the aminos available in your system for a quick recovery. I would also supplement with another shake in the morning between breakfeast and lunch. On a side note, Whey Protein Isolate is the best of the protein powders out there. The amino acid profile and quick assimilation of the whey isolate by the body make it an optimum supplement for building muscle. Most of the proteins recommended in this thread are whey concentrates which offer 80% or less protein versus 90% plus for the whey isolate. A 30 gram scoop gives you over 27 grams of protein with less than 1 gram of fats/carbs. A good source that I found was xxxxxxxx @ www.NoSpamPlease.com.
