Protein question

hey

I heard to make adequate muscle and strength gains you should take your bodyweight in protein, so that's what I am currently doing

However, I just recently read that to make really fast muscle and strength gains you can take 1.5 to 2 times your bodyweight in protein.

Like anything else, your body gets a tolerance for it if you are taking in high amounts.

So should I take in 1.5 to 2g times my bodyweight? Will this get me good gains, Given that I work out hard enough? Or is this method for like professional athletes? I guess I work out pretty hard, sometimes veins pop out of my head and my face gets quite red(i'm not saying this to brag i'm foreal, i'm just wondering because maybe my body won't use all the protein.)

Or should I cycle it?

if you want to know my goals they are simple. Functional strength, muscles, veins...

thanks, I also take fruit punch creatine plus(it's esterified creatine, supposedly more effective than straight up creatine) and L-Arginine(stimulates nitrous oxide which gives you a better pump and veins)

protein's not a drug - your body won't build a "tolerance" for it. it will use what it needs and then deal with the rest by first burning it as low-grade fuel and storing whatever's left over as fat.

conventional wisdom says 1gr per pound of body weight is perfectly adequate.

however, powerlifters - the really BIG guys - usually start at 2gr per pound. i know a number of them and none of them are taking less than 300gr protein a day. but you have to be doing some *serious* weight to need this kind of protein.

try taking it up to 1.5 grams for a couple weeks and just see what happens. if you don't notice any difference, take it back down to 1 and save yourself the money.

to see veins, you need to reduce body fat - scale back the carbs and make sure you're doing cardio regularly.
