Real General Question....

ok, I've heard that having a bad diet, but taking suppliments to make up for it is bad for your kidneys. Is that true?? Is there really anything wrong with having a bad diet, but getting suppliments for everything you need??

assume you're talking about protein. if high protein diets were so bad for the kidneys, alot of us would be in big trouble but this isnt the case. now if you have pre-existing problems, totally different.

dont be brainwashed by the supplement ads. only thing they offer over real food is convience

so then they're the same as eating it in food?? (i mean like pill suppliments) I also heard that the vitamins and minerals in pills are harder to absorb somehow.

Its all about bio-availibility. Some vitamins and minerals are absorbed in the intestines. Many pills are done in by the stomach acid, so you actually only absorb between 30-50% (best case scenario) of what they offer. So if you are getting your nutrition from whole foods, you are getting a higher percentage of the micronutrients involved.

The #1 reason that multi's are recommended is because our society has horrible diet behaviors. Everyday people eat too much "convienence" foods offering no nutritional value, and those trying to lose weight generally cut back on their foods and so aren't getting enough nutrients. That is why the only thing that I recommend to anyone starting out with a routine is a multi-vitamin.
