Syntrax Matrix 5.0
OK, without a doubt the best protein drink I have ever had...I got the Orange Cream flavor and it tastes like a creamcicle(sp?).
It is a bit pricey however, at around $31 for 5 pounds, but damn it is worth it. The best part is that it is a combination of mostly "slow acting" proteins, so it is good to consume at any point in the day other than post workout, where obviously you want a whey isolate.
just thought I would put that out there, but this is like drinking candy

How long would a 5lb bucket last? I realize there's a ton of variables, but about how long?

like you said, lots of variables, but it says there are something like 75 or so servings on the package. That is 75 one scoop servings which is about 110 calories and 23 g of protein.
I always usually double up my protein drinks, so it would last about a month or so in that case...so about $1 a day...(if I only used it once per day, which I don't, but that's just a good starting point)
I would say realistically you are looking at 3 weeks to a month and a half depending on your needs....

First, I agree, it tastes AWESOME, one of the best I've tasted. But, I didn't think it was "mostly" slow acting proteins, I thought it was whey, with added slower proteins. Do you know the breakdown?

I don't remember exactly, but I know for a fact there is no whey isolate in there. Whey concentrate is a "slower" acting protein than whey isolate, but I don't know how much of the ingredients are whey and how much are the milk protein, etc...

whey protein is fast acting. a slow acting protein would be like casein (another protein from milk), it is just digested slower. I don't see how it would matter what kind you consume before bed, because aminos are free flowing in the blood, so they stay in the blood until they are needed and they are joined (if you have all the necessary aminos). it does make sense to go for whey after a workout cause it is digested faster, and more anabolic. ive gathered that slow acting proteins like casein slow protein breakdown and whey doesnt, is that why slow would be better before bed?

I always thought a slow acting protein would be better before bed since you are fasting all night long, so the protein would be digested slower and more steadily throughout the night while you sleep. that's why a lot of people have cottage cheese before bed...dairy protein--slowly digested...but I despise cottage cheese, so we need the next best thing

It probably doesn't matter too much, as long as you ate enough protein through a 24 hour period.

but it shouldnt really matter since aminos are free roaming, the protein is broken down into aminos, and like i said before when 4 types are present then they can reform the protein in the body. it would make more sense to say that the slow acting would be the best before bed, because like you said you are fasting, but to prevent protein breakdown during sleep (I think). I think the slow acting proteins are digested for up to 7 hours versus something like whey which is only 2-3 hours, if I remember correctly. can somebody correct me if im wrong?
