taking whey protein with soy milk

they is alot of debate going on with differences between whey protein and soy protein. does anyone know if there is a drawback with having a whey protein shake with soy milk rather than regular milk or just water? i really like the taste of SILK vanilla soy milk and am kinda lactose for regular milk

<shrugs> i frequently have whey protein with soya milk, just cause i want the fewer carbs. it's not like they're going to have some kind of negative interaction, any more than eating tofu with cheese will.

The big concern for men and soy protein is the increase in estrogen which is possible.

Would it happen enough to cause a problem if you just use the "silk" milk like product? Probably not. If you use it to mix your shakes with and start developing breasts - then stop. If you are a woman - no worries.

I'm lactose intolerant, so I make mine in soymilk. I can't see a problem with it.

actually, the phytoestrogens (i could swear i posted this already) in soya aren't anywhere near as strong as estrogen and go far to counteract the effect of mammalian estrogen.

as near as i can remember, the phytoestrogen binds to estrogen receptors, thus blocking them. but because the phytoestrogen is so much weaker, the overall effect is a reduction in estrogen.

OH Geeze Louise! One would have to consume ALOT more than a cups' worth to have a negative effect. Quit dissing soy, it has MANY more benefits than negatives.

Didn't say not to take it. Just said that's the concern that many have with it. Seems to be the biggest worry for many men who take protein suppliments. During the strictest part of my initial weight loss I used the "silk" milklike stubstance myself. No harmful effects. Right now I have better results myself just mixing whey with water. But to each his/her own. If you like the stuff, use it.
