Terrible Gas after I drink Whey or Egg protein shake

Guys, I've been having horrible gas after my Whey/Egg protein shakes. I mix them with water, not milk--and I never add fruit or anything else to the shake. I've had this problem for a few months, though I've been drinking the stuff for more than a year and a half...

Any way to fix this? I want to continue to drink protein shakes, but the farts are getting on my family's nerves (lol).

How much protein are you using in a single shake? Specifically what kind of protein are you buying?

I buy two kinds of Protein powder: Precision-Engineered Whey Protein, and Healthy 'N Fit 100% Egg Protein. I mix either one in a tall glass of water, and don't add anything else.

In a single shake, I use about 35-40 g's of Protein's worth. For the Whey Protein, this means about two scoops--and for the Egg protein, this means a little more than a scoop.

At one point, I was putting in too much protein--about 70-90 grams worth of it--into each shake. This is when the gas started...that was a few months ago, and since then I have taken it down to about 35-40 grams of protein per shake. But I still am getting the gas...

Thanks in advance, and I apologize for not putting in this necessary information in my first post...

If you're nutrition label on the protein says that there are more than 2 grams of carb per 24 grams of actual protein, consider shopping around. I almost never have a straight protein meal (especially not a protein powder). When I make my shakes, I always use a quality whey, about 1/3 cup of cottage cheese, and at least a tablespoon of flax meal (adds fiber and quality fat). With the added protein from the cottage cheese, you should reduce the protein powder to just a scoop. Try it.

You may also investigate being lactose intolerant if it is happening with your whey. Check out a high quality whey isolate. See if this takes care of it.

And as mentioned, have something with your shake.

Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey would really mess up my wife's digestive system. Since we switched to AlltheWhey isolate, we we've had absolutely no stomach problems.

Firstly, thanks for the replies.

One thing though - I don't have any cottage cheese. Anything else I could put in there?

Also, I'll start looking at other brands of Whey, thanks for the tip...

Alright, so I had a Whey/Cottage cheese shake...didn't taste that good, since I've never been a really big fan of Cottage cheese, but taste has never been important to me anyways when it comes to health...and, I'm not farting (woo hoo! Lol). I'll have to do the one scoop of Whey + Cottage cheese from now on then...thanks for the tip, Cursor. :-D

The longer you blend it, the smoother it'll get. Mine is always totally blended so that you really have no idea that there's cottage cheese in it! (At least not by taste/texture.)

Yeah, I put it in the Blender for about 30 seconds....then I poured it into a cup and started drinking. Turns out most of the cottage cheese sank to the bottom in tiny little bits (lol). I guess I need to blend it longer next time...?
