A fairly fit friend of mine recently went in to hospital for surgery on his wisdom teeth - before he was knocked out he had a drip put in him and 1.5 litres of water put into his system. When he asked why he was told that he was that much dehydrated and that the vast majority of people going about their daily business are between 1.5 and 2.5 litres of water dehydrated. Even if you think you're doing ok, it's a very good likelihood that you just don't drink enough water, especially if you consume diuretics regularly as so many people do.

Water !!

I used to drink up to a gallon and a half at the high of my bulking phase back in 2000.
I was pissing like a russian race horse !

I had a 4 quart bottle on me always.

Save the gallon bottles and go to the 25 cent or 35 cent machines in front of supermarkets and fill up your bottles there to save money.

No, kidney stones are caused by excess calcium and protein in your system. This means you are NOT drinking ENOUGH WATER. Regardless of the source. More water keeps the kidneys fully flushed!

By the way, the majority (substantially more than 50%) of the water that you buy in stores is exactly what you get out of the tap. The water that comes out of my tap is just fine for me.

Aye - I have 6 water bottles that I just refill every night from the tap and put em in the fridge heh. I have a filter on the tap myself but that is a recent addition =)

I thought drinking water after cardio somehow turns into fat. Now I know the reality.

I think the simplest and best way to judge the amount of water each person needs, is to drink enough till your pissing clear. With a few exceptions, like when you drink heaps of coffee or alcohol, your urine will be clear because your body is hydrated.

YOu know thats exactly what i was thinking as well, wait until you are pissing clear, and then you know u are fully hydrated.

I will go 2-3 hours without pissing until i hit the stage where I am pissing clear. If i continue to drink water, im pissing every 30 minutes after that. Thats when my body is probably just redirecting whatever i drink straight to my bladder.

I think sometimes it is still cold when its coming out :

When you say that a person needs at least 8 glasses of water a day, are you factoring in water that comes from the foods being eaten or not? Just wondering but either way I drink over a gallon of water everyday.

great postt. i learned some new stuff. Yea since i started drinking just water (about year and a half ago) i lost some weight, since i DO NOT drink sodas or fruit juices (sometimes orange jouce once in a while). If you drink soda rite now... stop and think twice. Soda is more than just carbonated, colorful, sweet taste drink. i has a lot of sugars, carbs, and a lot of chemicals that make up the color of it. its not good for your body. ur better off drinking a lot of water lol thats why its more expensive to buy water than soda, cuz everything that is healthy always costs more money (as an example: 80% ground beef= 2.99/lb 93% gorund beef= 3.49/lb). So yea H2O is def the way to go

Old post, but a good one. Couldn't help but want to add my two cents. ^_^

When I started taking better care of my body, the first thing I did before all others was cut soda, coffee and alcohol out of my diet. I firmly believe that part of the reason I lost so much weight my first week was drinking a gallon of water a day. For the record, I was 5'6 and 148 pounds so don't be afraid of having too much. Eventually your body gets used to water only and actually begins to crave more of it, at least that's what happened to me.

Yes Id have to agree Girly. I drink upwards of 2-3 gallons of water a day. And if I do not have a 1/2 gallon jug of water on me at all times, i feel ***** lol.

Little story> When I was growing up, a friend and I used to go to the gas station every day and buy a 2 liter of pop EACH! And we didnt get diet pop either. I think about it sometimes, how many empty calories, and how much sugar I dumped into my body, screwing up my metabolism, screwing up my insulin and all the other chemicals in my body. Unbelievable. I must have done this for a good 4 to 5 yrs straight too. Then one day, I just said, thats it, thats enough. I am done with pop. And at that point I went cold turkey. I had a headache for about 3 days, and after about 2-3 weeks I no longer craved it. Now once in a while ill have a diet pepsi 20oz, but its rare. ANd if i happen to on the odd occasion have a regular pop...like pepsi, it tastes very strange, in fact I dont even like it anymore.

My body is completely addicted to water now.

Good post.
