Make sure to have enough electrolytes. Too much water can be a bad thing.

one would happen if you went from drinking almost no water to a lot of water without gradually moving up?

You'd be visiting the toilet a lot, needless to mention the cramps and headaches you possibly would get.

Your body naturally knows how much water to hold. If you haven't been drinking a lot of water and suddenly up your intake, you use the bathroom a lot, but otherwise you will feel great.

bigian79 is totally right dont change ur amount of water u drink overnight. I tried to drink a gallon in a day for a couple of days and i had to go to the bathroom like every two hours was really a pain in the ass to sit in class and have to go to the bathroom
If your going to change ur water intake than do it slowly so your body can get used to the amount of water your taking in.

Little story> When I was growing up, a friend and I used to go to the gas station every day and buy a 2 liter of pop EACH! And we didnt get diet pop either. I think about it sometimes, how many empty calories, and how much sugar I dumped into my body, screwing up my metabolism, screwing up my insulin and all the other chemicals in my body. Unbelievable. I must have done this for a good 4 to 5 yrs straight too. Then one day, I just said, thats it, thats enough. I am done with pop. And at that point I went cold turkey. I had a headache for about 3 days, and after about 2-3 weeks I no longer craved it. Now once in a while ill have a diet pepsi 20oz, but its rare. ANd if i happen to on the odd occasion have a regular pop...like pepsi, it tastes very strange, in fact I dont even like it anymore.

My body is completely addicted to water now.

Good post.
WOW, 2-3 gallons of water a day?!?!

Is water enough?

Water is very important, we all agree on that. However, for many athletes, especially those who are involved in very strenuous workout regimins, dehydration may still be an issue, even if alot of water is consumed.

Water alone does not provide significant electrolytes that are lost during activity through sweat. Electrolytes like sodium, magnesium and potassium must be replaced to be properly hydrated.

Most of the big name commercial brands out there ("Thirst Quenchers") are nothing more than over-sugared water, which can actually encourage de-hydration.

I am using a re-hydration formula that is "hypotonic" (rapidly absorbed). It is emptied quickly from the gut for absorption into the tissues, which nourishes working cells.

This formula will be featured in Tri-Athlete magazine in August. I found out about it because the company is here where I live (San Diego). I want to avoid sounding like an Ad because that is not my intention. So...

If you would like more information on this formula, please email me at bcvpaulg@yahoo.com

I will continue to drink fresh water, but being properly hydrated is critical, particularly for athletes.

That's crazy! Maybe it's just me, but I have a hard time drinking 4 servings (8fl. oz each) a day! I don't know why, but I do.

Recently Increased Water Drinking and...

Well, I've just recently (beginning of last week) started to increase the amount of water that I drink. I've done so b/c I am now taking Creatine + NOX2 (yes, I know many have said it's a p.o.s. supplement, but I'm one of those that has to find out for themselves.) and HOLY CRAP am I going to the bathroom a lot. I feel as though I almost always have to go. I've been getting up around 2-3 times per night to use the bathroom and it's pretty annoying.

I weigh 185lbs, and am currently taking in between 8 and 12 glasses per day. Can anyone tell me if my body will begin to adjust soon? Or perhaps I am drinking too much. Please inform me.

Thanks.

I started drinking (at least) 8 glasses a day about a week ago and the first few days I felt like I was going to the bathroom every five minutes and was going insane! But now I'm used to it... I used to MAKE myself drink 8 glasses and now I finish them with ease and want more. My body also feels more adapted to it.

I read recently that if your urine is clear then you are flushing out essential minerals and vitamins, it should actually be a straw colour. My urine regularly runs clear due to all the water i drink, and I'm hoping I'm not losing anything vital. Do any urine experts know about this?

Yeah i was the same way.....at first i was having a hard time drinkin lots of water but now its very easy and i have noticed that i dont go to the bathroom as much anymore also.

Yeah i have also heard that white is better. The more yellow it is the more water you need. If it gets like orange then you got a real prob and need water immediately. Thats what i have heard and have stuck with.
