Threat to Nutritional Supplements

An article from FlexOnLine:

S O S - SAVE OUR SUPPLEMENTS
Proposed legislation could be a bitter pill to swallow

Legislation that could shelve nutritional supplements for good is working its way through Congress in the form of Senate bill S. 722. If this bill is passed into law it will become the Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2003 and will severely limit the range of dietary supplements you can choose from. That includes many of the most popular bodybuilding supplements.
If you are against this initiative, the best way to register your disapproval is to contact your state's two U.S. senators.

To do this visit http://www.senate.gov, choose your state from the drop-down menu, and the phone numbers and e-mail addresses will be listed for each senator.

Call, fax or e-mail your U.S. senators today. Ask them not to change the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (known as DSHEA). Tell them you don't want your access to dietary supplements to be limited. Ask them to oppose S. 722 or any similar proposed legislation.

GET THE FACTS
For an in-depth look at the truth behind the proposed legislation and the history of supplementation and the FDA, please read Jeff O'Connell's article Supplements Under Siege. It may be the most important article on nutrition you'll ever read!

SAMPLE LETTER
We've even prepared a sample letter for you to cut and paste into the body of your e-mail, letter, or fax. Remember to replace the items in [brackets] with the appropriate information:

[Date]

Dear [Name of senator]:

I wish to record my opposition to bill S. 722. I request that you not change DSHEA (the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994), and ask that you oppose S. 722 or any similar proposed legislation. I state emphatically that I do not want my access to dietary supplements to be limited.

Yours sincerely,

[Your own name]
[Address]

I strongly urge everyone to keep up with this issue. Our free choice is set to be compromised! IronMan

Quality supplements are suspect while Oreos, Big Macs, and Snickers have no limitations. Huh?

It is so-o-o-o very aggravating for me when our government bans things. The self policing of ephedra is working. Stores are taking it off the shelves and choosing not to carry it. And people are becoming more aware that they need to follow label directions. As for the targeting of pro-hormones -- just what we need, more traffic in black market goods. Our great country alread has over 2 MILLION of its citizens in lockup, a great deal of them there for drug related offenses. Time to rethink the direction and intent of our laws.
