time after mixing protein drink before consumption

If anyone has any insight to my query, it would be much appreciated (I have searched, with no luck - 'time' and similar related strings bring back a lot of hits)

On the side of my protein powder tub, there are words to the effect of "consume within 20 minutes of mixing", which presents something of a problem in various situations - e.g. I prefer to consume it as soon as I finish working out in the morning - I cant hardly mix it in the gym, and cant go home to mix it (cause Im on my way to work now), but I can mix it beforehand - this does however mean that its been sat in mixed form for at least 2 hours.

My question really, is whether or not there is any validity in the idea that I have to consume it within 20 minutes of mixing - if not, how long am I safe to leave it mixed for?

why you can't mix it in the gym ???

I do and here's how ... take the desired amount in a shaker (not heavy/bulky nor expensive) add water, shake

don't mean to be a smartarse but that's how I do it, rinse the shaker afterwards and I am good to go.

to actually answer your question though ... dunno

There is no '20-minute limit' nor similar restriction. I occasionally create a shake (more complex than simply water+protein) in the AM then drink it in the mid-afternoon (depending on my schedule and where I'll be). Don't worry about it.

thank you both pseudonym & cursor I shall mix it and not worry about the time lapse - I had said I cant mix it in the gym because I like to use the blender (bung in a few strawberries etc etc), but I guess I could indeed rely on shaking :

I prefer an old gatorade bottle to a shaker, free and if you have a hard time cleaning it just through it away.

The only pitfall is when whey is added dry to the bottom of a bottle it tends to stick, get around this by adding some dextrose and mixing the dry before adding the water.

Or you could just but your protien in a portable container (buy a small bucket of whey and save the container then refill it from your 5lb tub).

Like cursor said it's not a big deal if you want a fancy shake but whey, water, dextose is pretty tasty.

I don't think I could live without my shaker cups, 4 shakes a day and V-12, there is alot of mixing, if you have trouble with the taste, I could recomend a few that taste grate with water.

Use the blender first - pour it into the gatorade bottle - take it with you. Just be sure to leave a little room at the top of the bottle to re-shake with. The reason they put drink immediately or drink within 20 minutes is because the protein clumps and settles to the bottom if it sets too long. Or at least that happens, and I think it's the reason they put it on the tub. Ever had a clumpy settled whey shake?

NASTY.
