message for am1star
My wife has struggled with her weight for years now and was recently dianoased with PCOD, a disease that effects alot of women and makes it very had to lose weight. However as a good husband i kept my mouth shut until she asked me for advice, she has started to listen to me and in the last two weeks has lost 7 lbs.
It is very important for you to start your morning off right with a healthly breakfast and to make sure your having a snack 4 hours later (an apple and peanut butter). Eatting 6 times a day will keep your cravings down and your metabolism up and make sure you are drinking alot of water.
Avoid sugar and refined carbs as much as possible thoughout the day and stick with your workouts. Eat only complex carbs, proteins, and very little fats.
Also check with your doctor to find out if you have any medical conditions effecting your weight such as PCOS or hyperthyroid.
Also it might be a good idea to follow firehawks idea of a cheat day, or cheat meal if you can handle it.
My advice is not intented to replace any medical advice, so check with your doctor before you start a diet and weight loss program.
FIREHAWK: I respect your postion and agree some people may need a cheat day, however I was only stating what worked for me. :

am1star, sorry for bailing on you. We had a lightning storm here and I had to pull the plug.
Now I'll finish. If you have blood sugar problems for example hyperglycemia - this can really help because it will generally stabilize blood sugar at a low normal level.
However, if you are already a diagnosed type II diabetic taking oral meds - consult with your doctor on this and test very frequently. Once the blood sugar normalizes and you aren't insulin resistant anymore you will have to come off the meds or you will end up hypoglycemic or even in insulin shock. If you are on insulin now - you will have to be even more careful about monitoring blood sugar and working very closely with your doc about adjusting your scale. If your doc won't work with you on this, change docs or don't do it. This is radical, extreme, and effective.
When I started, I was insulin resistant and needing to go on meds, had trouble with my legs being too weakened from MS to carry my big butt around, had wounds that were in excess of 2 years old that hadn't healed because of my constantly elevated blood sugar. It wasn't pretty. I was also 34 years old with coronary artery disease - very high cholesterol and the doc wanted me to go on statin drugs immediately, along with aspirin every day and another of the newer (back then) blood thinners.
My doc initially objected when I did my reading and decided to do this because it flew in the face of conventional wisdom which was, "eat low fat and you'll be fine". As an AHA instructor I was preaching the same thing every day while living it and getting worse and worse each day.
Now she has me talk to her DMII patients who are willing to try something radical. I also worked with one insulin dependant diabetic (and his doctor) who kept going into insulin shock - almost daily to adjust his food to fit the medicine he had to take. I haven't had to pick him up in insulin shock in over 6 months now. Either he's dead or better. Since I saw him sitting on his porch today waving - and didn't smell anything bad, I'm assuming he's doing well, unless his wife has some kind of "Weekend at Bernie's" thing going on with lots of air fresheners.
Once again, good luck, consult with your physician about this if you have any endocrine issues. If it's a smart doc that keeps up with their CME reading they will understand that sometimes drastic situations call for drastic measures.
Now this is temporary, it will be a lifestyle for a long time. Then when the time comes to change things around with different carbs, carb timing, exercise changes - you will have to change those things. If you don't you will find that being underweight has it's own set of health problems...different ones from being overweight, but not good to have nonetheless.
Once again, best wishes. If you choose to do this or if you choose a different approach. Start that nutrition/training log here and we will all be rooting for you and even when we have nothing to say, privately cheering you on.

i agree that you will get results a bit faster if you kept it to a cheat meal...i think we can agree there. However, i saw plenty of progress when i was real big (3 lbs a week still of loss from saturday morning to saturday morning) taking a full cheat day (~7-8000 calories in that day 'this is my idea of a cheat day lol) and being very strict the other 6. By starting out with a cheat day, it's a bit easier mentally and you still see plenty of progress.
Both will work, i was merely speaking from the standpoint of someone that had/has a very hard time keeping cravings in check.

if you truly want to lose the weight, you will do it. just relax and start working towards your goal. When you have smaller goals, you tend to get motivated more, since you reach them more quickly, thus making you feel good about yourseld.

Oh yeah i said that!!!
