COX inhibitors have been repeatedly show to have a negative effect on muscle growth and recovery. They are best avoided unless you really need them, but try to minimize their use.

COX is the Cyclooxygenase enzyme, which is necessary to form Prostaglandins from Arachidonic Acid. Series 2 prostaglandins (mostly PGF2a) are involved in signalling pathways that accompany exercise (and other tissue damage), that increase protein synthesis and cell proliferation.

You are basically crippling your body's ability (somewhat) to recover/grow from your workouts.

Unfortunately, series 2 prostaglandins both increase inflammation, as well as sensitizing pain receptors - which is a reason this is a target to help relieve pain and inflammation. For the bodybuilder or fitness enthusiast, they are not a good idea.

Unfortunately, it doesn't leave us many choices to deal with pain.
