Water/Sports Drink

Ok normally any time I workout I will have a bottle or two of water with me to drink while I am lifting. Today I went to the grocery store to buy an energy drink before I worked out (dont ask.. I like them). But while I was there I saw one of those Gatorade Fitness Propel waters or whatnot, and I bought it for no reason. Well I didn't notice anything while I was working out but after I finished it I switched to water and the water made my stomach seem upset or feel weird when I was lifting. And I was just wondering if drinking the sports water (Gatorade/propel/etc.) actually makes a difference while working out? I noticed also that I didn't have to use the bathroom between a set/exercise the whole time and normally I go twice during my workout.

Gatorade etc....will not aid your performance in any activity that is less than 90 minutes in length.

If used after a workout, it can aid in recovery.

For a young buck like Plucas, that is true. But I have been reading research on older athletes (over 40) and they say that sipping diluted gatorade during a weight lifting session will blunt the effects of cortisol and reduce catabolism. Important stuff as you rise in age, hehehehe.

Are you referring purely to resistance training (as I would imagine in reference to Plucas post) or also sports such as soccer and rugby aswell?

Propel water by gatorade is totally different than normal gatorade. It only has like 15-20 cals per 8 oz serving I believe, and I don't think dextrose is the primary sweetener in it.

That might depend on the athlete's level of readily available, stored carbohydrate. The more depleted the athlete, the greater the potential benefit from a bit of dietary sugar during the effort. My personal experience is that what you have been doing and eating for the previous couple of days can change the situation greatly.

I mean I'm not asking if it will make my bench go up 5 lbs when I drink it, But seriously.. After drinking and then switching to water in the middle of lifting the water just seemed to make my stomach uneasy while lifting the weights, not resting. Was it because I changed over? Like why do you think I would have that feeling?
