What have your effects been from a PWO shake?

I think it is time I start doing this I just never really bought into it before. What effects on your body have you seen from drinking a post workout shake with just protein, water, dextrose etc. I don't plan on using any creatine in mine at the moment. I would like to put on some mass so I'm wondering if this will help along with my diet which I have under control at the moment, 6 meals a day. thanks

Yes, a PWO shake will help a lot if you're trying to gain mass. Mixed as described would be perfect- don't put in any fats like peanut butter, etc. as you want rapid absorption after your workout.

Water, whey and dextrose makes a perfect PWO shake. Eat a "real" meal about an hour or two after the shake, though if mass is your goal.

Ditto on Tuna. Getting that blood sugar back up after exercise is very important, along with the protein your body wants so badly after lifting.

took the words right out of mouth. actually i would add maltodextrin to the mix (increasing absorbtion rate of dextrose) and a bit of salt to replenish the sodium lost from sweat. If you're gonna ignore all that, however, just remember to avoid fat/fiber post workout!
