They work alright and they're highly effective compared to other supplements. That's one of the reasons there's legislation in the works (or passed already depending on where you live). I think there are a lot of medical company special interests behind the ban on ephedra. Prescrition medicine kills a number of people every year (much more than ephedra can ever be linked to) and that's never an issue like this has become. Simply put, the prescription
weight loss agents that were introduced a few years ago were complete busts (some with severe side-effects on the pulminary system) and now the medical companies want ephedra back in the fold (it's still used in prescription cough medicine for instance) so that they can profit from it. A few deaths/near-misses from absurdly irrresponsible use is not grounds enough for legislation in my book.
