Question

what kind of protein before bed?

I was wondering if I should take whey or casein protien before bed, or if it doesn't matter?

right now I have 20 grams of whey right before bed, and my last meal of the day is about 2 hrs earlier.

Whey is the best post workout as your body needs a fast absorbing protein source. casein protein would be best before bedtime because it absorbs more slowly. You could also use regular food like chicken as it breaks down slower too.

The latest and greatest is supposed to be micellular casein. But I don't know much about it.

casein would be a better choice before bed. it has a slower release rate of amino acids

Milk, cheese, cottage cheese, ice-cream, yogurt - basically any food made from milk.

I usually have a whey protein shake mixed with milk. When you go to sleep your body goes without food for a relativley long time (I eat every 3 hours). It's better to take in protein that takes longer to digest, milk & especially casein protein takes a little longer than whey, which is probably best post-workout with water & simple carbs.

Your body needs essentially something to 'work on' while you sleep, most pro-bodybuliders wake themselves after every 3 hours of sleep for a protein boost to stop their muscles from becoming catabolic.

I've been using GlycerLean before bed lately...it's a "slow release" whey protein.
