What protein must I take?

Hey there everyone,

I want to get a protein supplement but don't know what to get.
I have been searching through the forums but havn't really found the answers I'm looking for. What I wanna know is what kind of shake must I get and with what must I drink it? Must I get a shake with mostly protein or one with protein and carbs? Must I get just whey or a mix of proteins. Must I drink it with milk or something else?

Thanks in advance.

hey, silver-

i think that's really going to depend on your over all goals. first of all what are you looking to get out of a protein shake? are you wanting a meal replacement or just additional protein? what are your fitness goals, and what does you diet generally consist of?

I am just looking to put on about 5-7 kg's of muscle. In the mornings I eat a high fibre cereal. A fruit or 2 as a snack inbetween then for lunch something High in protein like tuna/chicken on wholewheat bread another fruit for a snack. My dinner is whatever my gran makes usaully chicken or mince meat or something like that with potatoes or rice and a vegtable or 2. Then after 1.5 hours I workout and have something afterwards it's for this that I'm actually looking for something?
Thanks

Hi Silver

I would suggest you buy some Whey protein - that is, just a protein shake mix, not a 'meal replacement' or 'weight gainer'. Then I suggest you have one in the morning with your high fiber cereal (cereal really doesnt have enough protein by itself) and have one after your workout, with some fruit like a banana maybe. You should really try to get some protein with every meal - perhaps add some yogurt to your mid morning fruit.

What does your training look like?

hey silver-

i agree with minime's suggestion. it sounds like you may just want to add some whey protein into the mix. if you are looking for a brand to try out, i would recoment optimum nutrition. i just bought a tub a few weeks ago after reading so many positive comments on this site about it. it tastes pretty good and mixes easily.
