I just recently bought another tub of Optimum Nutrition whey protein, and it looks like they changed the outer appearance. They also added one more gram of protein so it's now 23 grams of protein per serving.

I stuck this thread because this is a question that's asked over and over again and this particular thread has a lot of different choices. I know ideas are being floated as to how to better help our newbies, but for now I'm just going to stick this .

Oh yea - let me answer too. These are the ones I have tried.

GNC 100% vanilla - tastes OK and mixes fine, but a little pricey without a discount.

Optimum Nutrition's 100% whey chocolate - I'm not a chocolate fan so I don't drink this plain, but tastes ok and mixes well. Good price.

EAS Simply whey vanilla - tastes good and mixes well. Good price if you can find it discounted. When I bought it, it was the same price as Optimum Nutrition.

Maxpro banana (protein blend) - mixes well, but tastes like crap. Could be the banana flavor or not, but YUCK. (on the other hand, there's a guy at my gym that loves it) Price was cheap though!

Well I'm trying out a few others that I mentioned in the suppliers thread: http://www.discussfitness.com/showth...0&pagenumber=1

Peak Nutrition's isn't sugar free but it's very low in sugar/carbs. They're not too bad. Fitness Labs also makes a natural one with a unique natural sweetner- again fairly low in sugar/carbs. None of them are going to have the profile of the Nectar(promina whey) but they'll be good enough for me.

By the way, here's the company that makes the Promina whey: http://www.creativecompounds.com/

Protein Powders...

Greetings,

Protein powders are a waste of your money, and are completely unnecessary for what it is that you are attempting to accomplish. There are many protein powders that contain ingredients which are counter-productive to facilitate utilization of the base material. Whenever you ingest sugar, it always takes precedence over amino acid absorption and utilization, due to the large amount of nutrients required to metabolize sugar. Refined sugars which are in most protein powders decreases strength quite considerably, though its effects are temporary. Protein powders are almost always mixed with milk, which should be completely avoided, due to the adverse effects that are realized as a result of the various processing methods in milk production. It has been observed that elevated blood fats, reduction in nutrient absorption, as well as the development of arteriosclerosis are all a result of using dairy products. Eating a natural diet which consists of such foods as fish is much more effective to enhance tissue recovery from strenuous training.

Ah....then we get into the argument over how healthy it really is to eat such things as fish all the time. You'd need a good source if you want your fish to be "clean".

If sugar bothers people..then use a product such as Jay Robb's whey or egg shakes. For what I want to accomplish I do need these things. And I never mix mine with milk...

Watch out for those who say supplements, period, are a waste of money. Such as those on your website.

By the way...there are many health benifits of consuming whey.

The equation to figure out the percentage of protein in each serving:
(Grams of Protein/Grams per Serving) X 100 = % of Protein

Example: If I have a protein that is 23 grams per serving and a serving size is 25 grams, the equation will be (23/25) X 100 = 92% protein.

Whey concentrate can be between 65% to 82% protein. Most Isolates will run between 85% to 93%.

The equation for calculating cost per serving:

Cost of Container/Servings per Container = Cost per Serving

Example: My container of protein cost $23.99 and its label claims around 36 serving per container. 23.99/36 = 74.972 or about 75 cents per serving.

You can use this to calculate the percentage of protein for any type of protein powder. Whey concentrate or isolate, egg, casein, etc.

i was looking at the other protein powders and they are like 44% protein, but they have alot of other stuff in them like amino acis,, and or micronutrients. are these benficial to the effectiveness of the protein ? b/c the ProM3 stuff lacks that extra stuff
