I recently bought 2lbs of whey powder called "Pro-rated 100% whey protein" which is fairly new to the market. As always I bought the chocolate flavour. It has got the best taste I've ever tasted! Nothing that I've tried compares to it. It gives you 22g of protein in 1 scoop. It is high in glutamine and glutamine intermidiates. And above all that, it was really cheap too, but it's terrific.

few questions:
1. whats the biggest difference between traditional whey mixes ( optimum nutrition, all the whey, designer whey) and myoplex, met-rx, muscle milk, etc.? which do you benefit more from?
2. how do well or bad do these contribute to you whether you're on a bulking or cutting phase?
3. whats the diff between isolate and concentrate?
4. is there anything more than 22g at a reasonable price?

i think i'm gonna go with AST-VP2, "This breakthrough study showed that VP2 Whey Isolate increased strength in subjects 156% greater than other proteins! And this same study revealed VP2 produced over 615% more lean muscle growth while at the same time promoting a reduction in body fat!"
It's pretty appealing....the site http://www.ast-ss.com/products/produ....asp?prodid=26
thanx to everyone that posted....

Everyone talks about which protein powder is best, and which they use.
But am a bit lost, I dont know what to look for when buying protein powder, What should one look for? I assume the one with the highest protein is the one I'd want.. But is there anything eles which should help support or change my mind about buying a protein powder product?
Thanks,
Philly

making stuff up
Please don't make things up. You sound very uneducated. Either you or your source of information are very flawed.

Just to let you know protein is protein. You have different types of proteins such as whey Isolate, concentrate, egg protein, Milk, Soy. If protein = protein, the research being used is for marketing purposes. My point is Muscle Tech has a similar research on there Nitro-Tech protein and they also claim a % increase in lean muscle mass. But the part they don't tell you is that there protein contains Creatine Monohydrate!
You have 2 companies making a whey protein, actually they don't make the protein they just market the protein. Company A calls manufacturer 1 and request to have a specific taste, color, etc.. made for them. Company B calls the SAME manufacturer and request to have there on specific protein made for them, they only difference will be on the quality if the want Isolate or Concentrate or a mix. Have you ever notice that most if not all products say:
Developed and manufactured exclusively for:
or
Distributed by:
in the lable of the bottle.

An example, right now I am drinking Simply Protein from EAS.
It has 80 serving, 20 grams of protein per serving and 2,270 grams of total weight.
80 x 20 = 1600 / 2270 = 70%
Out of the entire 2270 grams of powder of the jug 1600 is pure protein (70%), the rest is carbs, fat, etc...
Designer Protein is also in the 70's.
The highest percentage that I have found has been:
VPX - Z0ero Carb
Natures Best - Isopure

Did you try this formula on AST VP2?
I got the following
32 servings 23.5 grams of protein per serving
32x23.5= 752/896= 83.9%

Vp2
I have not tried AST's VP2. I have tried there old formula VP.
Your calculation is correct, and it's higher than Designer & EAS Simply Protein.

YES.
But the correct question is, "Is it essential to use protein supplements while lifting?" And the answer to that question is no. You can get your protein from natural sources such as tuna, chicken, eggs, milk, etc. etc. Some people find it difficult to get the amount of protein needed from natural food sources so they turn to protein powders because they are faster and easier. Also, after a workout, many take whey protein because it is more quickly digested than say eating a tuna sandwich. Will you grow without supplements? Yes.

Ok, here's a noob question. I have been looking at the website for Optimum Nutrition and I see 2 different things for their protein.
One is labeled "natural" and the other is just powder. The "natural" one has stevia.
What is stevia?
From a brief google search I did it looks like some kind of diuretic?
Thanks for the info!
Jak
(edited for typos/bad grammar)
OK, looks like it's a sweetener of some sort. I guess my question then becomes what is the downside (if any) of that over the other product without it?
Or does it really matter except to personal taste?
Thanks again!
Jak

Best
I like th Proform whey isolate its 49%protein per serving and its best to use it before the workout as this is your golden window when your muscles absorbs easily digestible protien.
