What supplements are worth taking?

I'm in my mid 30's and have always been involved in sports. I just started lifting weights and am currently using HDT 5 plus 1 whey protein( 21 grams of protein per serving). Is glutamine worth taking. I want mass. Is there anything to take in addition to the whey protein.

Thumbs up

I would consider taking creatine, drink lots of water, and take a multi-vitamin to cover all your vitamin & mineral bases. That is about it. You could also take glutamine, but if you look on this board you'll find many debates on whether glutamine is useful or useless. I personally take glutamine as well as creatine, and have always had great results.

My 2 cents.

Yeah, I agree with Todd. The big one is creatine. I haven't heard many negatives about that one. Glutamine is a question of choice. I personally only got more regular bowel movements out of it (like you really wanted to know that...) but no noticeable change in recuperation or muscle growth. The studies that are usually debated here might be worht looking into. The multi-vitamin/mineral is number 1 though, cover your bases there first. Twinlab's Daily One has about everythig you'll ever need. Other than that just load up on quality protein and get in the gym!!

If I had an ulimited budget I would use the following:

Cut cycle (maintain weight, lose BF)
-San Tight/w Ephedrine HCL
-CLA
-A-L-Carnitine
-Glutamine
-Eas Betagen HP
-Myoplex Deluxe
-Whey powder

Bulk Cycle:
-CLA
-ZMA
-Lean Mass Matrix
-Glutamine
-Optimum Pro Complex
-Whey Powder
-Eas Betagen

Things I acutally use:
Betalean Hp(EAS) phosphagen Hp (EAS), whey (optimum), CLA (optimum), ZMA (optimum, just ran out)

You said that you want mass so I would put creatine at the top of that list then plenty of calories right after that. Other then creatine and protein most other things will only help you a little bit. The most important thing to remember when you want to put on mass is that you must eat plenty of clean calories.

have you considered steroids? i here great things about them...

seriously though, eat alot of calories and protein, creatine and do cardio... i love cardio... well now that I won't be able to lift for ANOTHER TWO MONTHS... turns out my shoulder is NOT better... I HATE BEING INJURED... got it sucks, all I can work is arms, abs and legs, can't touch shoulders, chest of back... which is what I really want to work.

Everything that needs to be said in this thread has heh. I will just say, if you are going for bulking, go easy on the cardio. Too much cardio will affect mass growth.

BUMP! Calories are much more anabolic than any supplement.

Springer, a fact about supplements, they don't work especially mass builders except whey protein. If you really wan;t some serious mass that is real, take oxymethelone 50mg per day for 30days or test enanthate 250mg 2 times per week. Don't waste your money and time. Work hard eat good and clean get enough rest and supplement your program with some effective real supplements.
