I just pop Smarties after I drink the creatine (mixed in water) :

They're dextrose + food coloring.

I've read that Crreatine was originally taken in coffee or tea as hot beverages help it dissolve better and be absorbed faster. After a 1996 study came out suggesting that caffeine interfered with Creatine absorbtion, everyone switched to cold beverages such as juice. There's at least one contradictory study that states caffeine does not interfere with Creatine absorbtion. Personally, I'm on the fence over the issue. I want to try Creatine, but I don't want to give up my coffee and diet Pepsi.

I'm planning to start Creatine in two or three weeks as soon as I hit my goal on fat loss. I'm considering taking it with a cup of hot caffeine-free herb tea such as Chamomile sweetened with honey.

The benefit of taking creatine with a high glycemic sugar is negligable (except in the case of post workout, but that is a different issue). Several studies have shown no benefit when loading with a high sugar item vs loading with a normal diet (if you really want to see the studies I can look em up)

I would be taking it post-workout, and would likely also be consuming a protein shake. I could even skip the tea and add the Creatine directly to the shake. My purpose in using herb tea was to take advantage of the benefits of a hot beverage--plus I happen to like herb teas.

Smarties are fine if that's what you are using, there's no need for anything else. All you are trying to do is spike insulin for transport, anything more will just be unwanted calories.

Not sure how much weight those studies hold on the caffeine. I'm pretty sure at least one of them was analyzed and found to be very flawed in their methods.

A cup of coffee really shouldn't hurt at all.
