well a fat blocker is supposed to block the fat from being absorbed into the blood stream. a fat burner uses thermogenesis to burn calories.
i do not think fat blockers are good:
1 - fat does not make you fat
2 - healthy fats (which would be blocked too i believe) are necessary for a healthy life
3 - healthy fats promote fat loss and muscle gain and are good for the heart and hormone production and cholesterol levels
so yes there is a difference. i cannot say however whether or not fat blockers do what they say they do or if they do it effectively. keep in mind that your body then has to expunge that fat that is blocked - this of course is a very unpleasant product

Chitosan, a fat blocker, is dietary fiber (such as from the shells of shrimp). As such, it is a fairly benign addition to a diet. They are good at helping to remove excess fat from one's diet, and I do use them. They are great to take when dining out or eating a treat such as pizza.
If you use a pharmaceutical drug (such as Xenacal) as a fat blocker then you are going to suffer the side effects that you read about -- anal leakage, explosive bowel movements, etc. I wouldn't touch this stuff unless I had no choice.

For some sick reason I'm picturing explosive bowle movements!
Sorry . . .
IronMan- What would be a reason someone may need to use the pharaceutical drug such as Xenacal? Just curious . . .

There is no magic pill that you can take to lose fat. Diet and exercise are the key. You can take something like a thermogenic that will raise your body temperature to help speed up your metabolism or something ephedra based will also do the trick assuming you are over the age of 18.
Running will take off muscle if you go overboard with it. Your best off to do HIIT training to lose fat. HIIT is first doing a short warm up walk followed by one minute of running and then one minute of walking for no longer than 15-20 minutes tops.
Mixing creatine and protein is o.k. to do especially after your workout but leave the hydroxycut out. If your taking hydroxycut to get some energy your better off taking that at the begining of your workout. They won't "cancel each other out" but your not going to get any added benefit by adding hydroxycut.

Bump for what DaLinkWent said.
DaLinkWent: People who are obese get Xenecal perscribed to them. They are desperate people looking for any help they can get to lose some weight and get healthier. There is a rumor that a very popular female singer was using this product and had one of those explosive BM's in the middle of a restaurant. True or not? Can't say, but the story makes you think twice about using a product like that.

Thanks for the info IronMan. That's kind of what I figured and I was just curious because drug that are for fat loss have a tendouncy to be used and abused by people looking to drop a quick ten pounds and therefore they float illegally around on the streets.

Go with the HIIT running three times per week and see if you are losing fat. If not, then add a session or two. Have you ever looked at the physique of a sprinter vs a long distance runner? That is the goal.

That's the example I use when trying to explain the benefits of HIIT to people. I feel much more exhausted from doing HIIT than the traditional running at a moderate pace.
I think the HIIT will help you get rid of some fat as long as you make sure you conitnue lifting weights and make sure your eating a high but clean protein diet. I can't stress to yu enough how much your diet plays into making sure you gain muscle and lose fat.
cheers
