What's the Difference in Proteins??

Hi everyone, this is probably a very newbie question, and that's becasue I am very very new to the site, and new to suplements in general. I've been looking around a bit, and notice all the different types of proteins people mention. Such as Whey protein, Milk protein and ect.
I'm wondering what is the difference in these different porteins, and are there ones that are better and worse, to take for a specific type of goals, or workout schedules? Also, is there differences in amount of time it takes for your body to digest these proteins? I ask because I'm still trying to determine the best time(s) durring the day to take a protein suplement.
Thanks in advance for your help.

i dont know about other proteins but i do know that whey protein is really easy to digest. That is why is the best protein to take right after workout and is the protein you see mostly sold as supplement.

I take it that the best time to take proteins, would be right after your workout then?

Milk protein digests slower and is usually used before bed.

Whey digests the fastest and is taken before and after workout.

Egg Protein has the greatest bioavailibility (3.9 out of a 4.0 scale) and is used at meal times.

You don't need all of these but that is what most major types are used for.

The best proteins are those obtained from whole foods (dairy, eggs, meat etc) as they; contain all of the amino acids essential for growth, cell development etc (AAs work in ratios/ groups); contain the micro nutrients & co-factors that aid in the digestion & utilisation of the protein, and; digest at a *slower* rate compared with pre-digested whey powders etc thus providing a steady stream of nutrients rather than the unwanted "spike & crash" where the body over compensates to remove the excess AA in the blood & create a temporary reduction in serum AA levels.

Spread your protein evenly over your main meals (daily) & take alongside the other 2 macro nutrients (fats & carbohydrates) to form whole complex meals. some examples include; scrambled eggs with butter & milk on wholegrain toast; steak/ fish & potatoes with a serving of vegetables; poultry & wholegrain rice plus serving of vegetables & so forth.
