When do supplements cross the line of being safe

I have just started taking Protein powder, Creatine, and Glutamine. I have always heard of steroids and all the side effects they have. Is the protein, creatine, and glutamine perfectly safe to use? I don't want ANY side effects later on in life. I want to gain muscle naturally.

Thanks

These are all safe to take....as long as you don't just sit there and overdose on any of them, cuz then, just like anything else when taken too much, it's unsafe.

There is nothing inherently dangerous or even remotely risky about the supplements you mentioned as long as they are taken as recommended. just remember that more is not always better. With anything, it's the dose that makes the poison. If you eat too many carrots you'll do serious damage to your system too (ask my brother who was hospitalized because of it!!).

Like the other guys said, you can overdose on anything if you over do it. I had a friend that took 30 grams of creatine a day for over 3 months. He got really good gains but the doctor kept telling him he needed to drink more water. He was drinking over 2 gallons a day. His doctor kept asking him what he was doing and finally said it was affecting his kidneys. So just goes to show you, too much of anything have negative effects.

Okay, thanks for your advice.

I just read a post on here about a guy taking steroids. I figured that this was a forum for people who lifted weights without taking steroids and such. I just don't want to get sucked into starting on one of these drugs.

BTW - I just started on the Glutamine and Whey Protein today. I am looking forward to seeing some good gains.

I am only taking 5 g of Glutamine and Creatine a day.

I tried drinking large amounts of water, but its sometimes hard to find access to restrooms so often.

I will try to improve. Right now I am only drinking about 8 oz of water a day. The other times I drink juice, diet sodas, or tea.

Yah, I would just try to drink more water...8 ounces per day is pretty low, but like you said it is hard for you to get water most of the time...just do your best or buy bottled water to take with you everywhere! Good luck!

Yikes, 8 ounces is really not very much water. What is that, 250ml? You definitely need to drink a lot more.

I carry a 600ml bottle with me wherever I go, and I make sure I always drink at least 6 bottles a day, while aiming for 8x600ml as my daily goal. That's 4.8 litres a day.

A few tricks I use to get my daily water requirements in:

1) I always down one 600ml bottle of water as soon as I get up.

2) I always drink 1-2 600ml bottles during any exercise (weights, cardio, or playing sports).

3) I always drink one 600ml bottle of water with every meal or snack.

4) I never drink any other beverage of any kind until I finish my water. Usually I couldn't possibly down any other liquids by that time anyway.

Since I do my workouts first thing in the morning before breakfast, that means I've had 3-4 bottles of water (1800-2400 ml) by the time I get to work at 8 am.
