When to take protein ?

About how long after or before a workout do you guys take creatine and protein? If you wait like 20 minutes after your workout will creatine still work?

Best bet is to take it right after a workout. I wouldn't take it any longer than 20 minutes after . . . .

Drinking my pre-prepared shake with creatine in it is the very first thing I do after lifting. Go to locker, guzzle down... :

Mine is 45 min. I read somewhere (I can't rememeber where) that 45 min was the magic number. So I drive home, guzzle shake/creatine.

thats completely wrong according to everything ive ever read. You need protein/creatine the minute you are finished working out. Sometimes with longer workouts, such as legs, i start sipping my shake in between the last few sets of calf raises towards the end.

and to the original poster...sure the creatine/protein will still work after 20 minutes, its just not the ideal time. Your body is in a catabolic (bad) state after you work out, and you need the amino acids in protein to put yourself back into an anabolic (good) state. The creatine is shuttled into your muscles at this time because this is the time when they are most suseptible to, and in need of, nutrients.
