Where to find Dextrose and Maltodextrose (?)

Where can I find these at? I hear that it is necessary for post-workout shakes.

Thanks

Well, necessary might be a strong word. Some companies manufacture maltodextrose so you can buy it in powder form, just like your protein.

I just eat Pixie sticks and Fun Dip. Those "little kid basketball game" powders are dextrose and malodextrose, from what I read on the label.

Wine/Beer making stores. Ask for dextrose, corn sugar, or maltodextrin.

www.supplment direct.com has 10lb tubs.... but go to Yahoo and search for "Now Nutrition Dextrose" You can get 2lb bags for around $1.50, its very cheap.

Ok, in my understanding the dextrose is to shuttle the protein to your muscles faster correct? So, does it have to be real sugar, can it be natural sugars such as eating an apple?

An apple is a different kind of sugar than you need. Fructose will fill up liver glycogen with exclusivity. It's a good idea to make about 10% of your post-workout sugars come from fructose so you can make sure the dextrose/malto spills over as efficiently as possible. Table sugar would work, but dextrose/malto are ideal.

In a round-about way, yes. The objective is to create a large insulin response which, after a workout, will direct most of the protein and carbs to your muscles. So, no, most fruit won't do as it's fructose which is rather slow compared to maltodextrose.

What ratio? Protein to carbs? If so, Smarties sugars are ALL dextrose and malodextrin. The larger packages have 25 grams per package. The smaller ones I'm not sure about but they are labeled.

No, the ration of nutrients and creatine to the amount of malto/dextrose. You're going to be eating a lot of smarties.
