Question

Whey Protein/ Stomach Problems?

In the last week I've had what does seem to be stomach problems and I was wondering if it is possibly the whey protein I've been taking?! It is from Prolab and it's called N Large 2. Curiously enough back in 2001 I was taking the same product out of experimenting with different ones and I did get a bad stomach back then but I was going through a bit of depression as well and thinking it might be irritable bowels syndrome. The symptoms seems to be a lot of gurgling in the large intestine and needing the loo when I've haven't really eaten a heck of a lot. I won't go into yucky details but I haven't had diarrhea but it just seems loose as if when you get that nervous feel and you need the toilet feeling. Anyone had problems like these??

I think I have taken it on an empty stomach as I always thought you're meant to take them between meals. It could partly be my fault. Since yesterday I've stopped taking it and their does seem to be improvements, so far. I will give it a couple of days or so and then go back to the one that didn't give me trouble.

it's not at all unlikely that you can't stomach the product, pardon the pun.

maybe it's a crap protein that your system just doesn't like.

Are you lactose intolerant? Can you handle other dairy products?

As Liftgirl said you may be lactose intolerant. For me cheese, and milk in moderation don't bother me but I used to drink a lot of milk (1/3 gallon/day) and had problems.

Also different wheys are different, GNC's brand is horrible for my stomach but ON's is great.

Yep, it sounds like lactose intolerance. I'm that way. I have switched to a whey isolate and have no issues whatsoever. Try Optimum Nutrition's isolate or AllTheWhey's isolate. I've used both without issues.

Got to agree, those are both great products. I think the ON product actual includes enzymes that help you digest the lactose.
