Wrestling and Supplements

ok so i'm a wrestler and the season is about to start. during practice we sweat a whole lot. i was wondering if creatine would be safe to take knowing that i'll be dehydrated day after day because i have to lose weight, fast. I want to use the creatine for energy and strength. I also want to know if i should take protein during wrestling, even though i have to lose about 7 pounds of fat to go to a lower weight class. Thanx

Creatine "Monohydrate" means it directly acts with water. If there is a lack of water, you are left with creatine circulating through your body causing more distress than good. It is designed to take water into your muscles giving them a cushion so to speak, allowing someone to lift a little heavier weight. It is also good for those quick energy bursts at the beginning of a set or rep due to ATP.

I took creatine during wrestling season and was just dandy. Drink a lot before and after practice. Also, if you really need water ask the coach don't be afraid, he can't refuse you water.

To lose weight either eat a little less or start losing the weight now. Do not dehydrate yourself 7 pounds on the last day, you will feel like ****, which you should know if you have been wrestling for a while.

dont take the creatine...it retains water, making it harder for you to lose weight

That is true but there is no reason if used properly that it won't help him. You just will need to lose the weight in a lot healthier and slower manner.

[quote=DaRkAnGel].....Also, if you really need water ask the coach don't be afraid, he can't refuse you water......

I dont know about that one... my coach never let anyone get water other than the water breaks he gave us every 25-30 mins or so. Its really a ****ty deal but you learn to practice without it. Once you do that for a while everything else seems a lot easier. Even if i asked for water the coach would just say "no". and then that was the end of that arguement.

(getting back to the thread subject). I dont think it would be a problem to take creatine during the season but as pmcgough said... if you're trying to lose weight i dont see why you really would take creatine because it retains water (weight! = bad!). There's also the risk of dehydration...

I personally wouldn't do it... but whatever sets your sail.
