Question

Cardio and Weight training all in the same day?

Here is my current routine and I am wondering if it is the wrong way to go about things. Specially the part that i am doing cardio before and after weights, although the before is really light and more just to get my waken up
I really can't go to the gym twice a day so i can't separate my cardio from my weights, so i am wondering if the above is ok?

Thank You.

Well, HERE I GO STEPPING IN FOR A LASHING, I AM SURE (and possibly from .V.)...Punisher, that is exactaly how I did my training 8 years ago everyday, 3 hours a day, seven days a week for 2 years solid...It DID do the job, but I was "done" after 2 years...I had OVER TRAINED and TONED with NOWHERE to go from there...I have recently been doing the weight training on one day and resting on my off day...I am supposed to be doing weight training one day and cardio on the off day...I do plan on getting to that point VERY soon...It seems to work for others that I know that have done this...It is supposed to give certain muscles a chance to recoup on their off days...THAT IS JUST MY ADVICE...IF I'M WRONG??? ANDY WILL LET ME KNOW QUICKLY....

Punisher.

I personally believe what you are doing works well. That's a tough workout combo you are doing so I assume you are not training daily - if you are, you shouldn't as your body needs time to recover as that is when growth occurs.

Make sure you fuel your body adequately after that hard workout.

Why don't you join us in the Online Journal forum and start your own training journal here at DiscussFitness. You'll get great feedback and we will better understand your current training and fitness goals. It is also a great way to chronicle your fitness transformation.

Have a great day and make yourself feel at home.

I would burn out pretty quick, but mainly because Max-OT is very taxing. If I was sandwiching a weight training workout with 2 kinds of cardio, I would pick a lower intensity weight training workout.

The above is my routine from Monday to Friday. However on the days that i work my legs I don't do any cardio, and on the nights that I have Indoor Soccer I also don't do cardio.

I do pop into the gym sometimes on Saturdays for 40-60 minutes of Cardio ( but only when i feel i have slacked during the week )

My goal is to loose about 20lbs of fat while putting on some muscle.

If you feel you must do cardio and weight training on the same day, you really have to eat for it or you will hurt youself. Depending on your goals, strength and muscle vs cardiovascular endurance...put the one that is most important to you first.

I generally suggest that you separate weights from cardio by 8 hours or so if training them on the same day.

My personal preference though is to train weights and cardio on different days. For example M, W, F...weights. T, Th...cardio. S/S...off. Too bad my schedule won't allow this. The best I can manage is weights EOD, Cardio every 4th day and off every 4th day.

You will not add muscle mass while you are losing weight. However doing weight training will help you maintain the lean muscle that you do have and sculpt your muscles while you lose weight.

I believe that it is fine to do cardio workouts on the same days that you do weight training. Cardio work you can do everyday without having a problem. Weight training should not be done without at least one day off between training each muscle group.

Weight training will burn calories but at different rates than a cardio workout depending on the muscle groups you are training.

You will continue to lose weight while weight training and combined with fat burning cardio work you will have a toned sculpted body when you are finished losing weight.

Good luck on your journey to a lean fit healthier you!
