Help, Tabata just kicked me in the throat!

I've tried starting with Tabata.

I set it easy for myself. Four sets, 20 crunches, 10 leg lifts, 10 mountain climbers, 5 pushups, 10 curls(each arm), thirty jumping jacks/jump rope and some bear crawls.

But after the first set, I'm totally wiped. Completely. I can barely type this. I'm in bad shape...but *this* bad?

I had the first set done in 4 minutes. I'll try again to do some HIIT rowing tomorrow morning but what do I do? Do I work up to two sets?

Do I stay in one? My heart is going crazy right now...but my muscles won't move. :/

Embarrassing.

I'm not sure you're really doing Tabatas. It sounds like you did all those exercises as fast as you could, with the goal of getting it done in 4 minutes? That's a (totally different) way of kicking your own butt, but it's not Tabata protocol.

The way Tabata intervals work is, you work as hard as possible for 20 seconds, then rest for 10 seconds, repeating for a total of 8 intervals. For instance, 20 seconds of crunches, 10 seconds of rest, 20 seconds of crunches, 10 seconds of rest, etc. If you then want to go on to leg lifts, you do the same protocol for 4 minutes after finishing all intervals of crunches.

And yes, it will totally kick your butt.

Hope this helps.

Anyone begining a shedule of training will feel f--ked if not fit.
So i presume yr a starter ?
If yes, you will continue to be breathless and heart will pound like a male dog on heat up yr leg.
Keep the goals simple and reach them with care and yr look back in time and think wow, look how i have achieved

I was doing tabata. Each of those repetition counts fit in exactly 20 seconds and then the time I switched between exercises was about 10 seconds.

I'm in terrible shape. I want to get into shape and I'm honestly willing to put in the time and effort, for however long I need to.

Is that going to work though? Or am I wasting my time?

Tabata intervals kick everybody's ass. That's the point. Keep it up and you will get in better shape, but it will never get easy.

I actually have tried a different track.

I know tabata is very in now but I just don't know what kind of results it was giving me 10 minutes every day like that. :/

I bought Power 90 and it should arrive soon. Can anyone vouch for it, or was the tabata better?

Throwing up, lying in a quivering pile on the floor, halucinating, etc. are all signs that you are doing Tabata correctly!

If you have no equipment and four minutes to spare, tabata squats will do the job nicely! last time I did them my legs didn't recover for days!

That's one way to put it. I wonder if I explain those side effects as thus to my potential Tabata clients,....will they feel motivated at the challenge? Or will they run in the other direction?

Hmm,......
