Looking to loose the beef...

Hi there,

I know this is probably the 1,000,000 or so post about this subject but would appreciate any help.

I've gotten pretty heavey. Close to, if not 13 stones and i'm under 6ft. So i've decided it's time to stop eating all those take aways and loose a few stones.

I'm a bit embarressed about the gym, but i'm gonna make myself go. I don't really know what i should be doing there though. Treadmill? Bike? Boat-rowing-thing?

Oh, also, how often should i be looking to hit the gym?

Argh, Help!

first off dont be embarrased... Im at the other end of the spectrum. I was and still am really a walking stick bug, I didnt know a damn thing bout lifting wieghts or cardio exercise... I was just winging it for the frist few months , and coming here every day to learn, and reading a few books along the way.

I was definately scared of what others thought, caz I was sloppy at the exercise, I couldnt control 10 lb. dumbells whil other guys not much bigger then me were throwing around 50+ dumbells... But after going for a year, ive learned no one gives a rats ass who you are, what you look like, and how horrible you are at working out or exercising. they care bout themselves, after all that is what we go to the gym for, is to better ourselves. I lied sometimes occasionaly youll get people who will point some things out to you, that better the things you are currently doing, people much like people in this forum, we appreciate people who are looking to better thier fitness and health.
most people also realize, not many people are going to walk in the gym for their first time ever and look perfect.

I dont really know what you should do other than do cardio and lift weights, but progress slowly, get good at it before you make it real hard. making it real hard is only fun when you know what you are doing.

Maybe try 2-3 full body weightlifting sessions a week and 2-3 cardio sessions a week.
workouts should be around 30-45 minutes, cardio can be done the most efficiently in 10-20 minutes. Alot of people spend countless hours on tredmills and bikes doing the wrong thing, dont be one of those people!

Im sure others will help you along the way, here and in the gym (not so much the gym, just very seldomly, like on full moons)

If you dislike the whole gym idea, you could always run outside the gym up and down the road or what not. then after losing a few stones hitting up the pools for fitness.

But you must keep yourself motivated, without going to the gym and paying you might lose motivation. i don't go to a gym, i workout at home got a few excersize machines etc. I like blarring my MP3 in my ears it gets me motivated to workout, so if you dislike the WHOLE gym idea you can always cardio it around the house. Sometimes i get a little bored of the whole idea of doing the same type of weights week in week out, so there is nothing wrong with mixing it up. Basically do what you feel like doing at the time, All the cardio excersizes will benefit you.

Make sure to eat relatively healthy, the healthy you eat the more it'll help
